Is it a redesign of the UI or a rebuild from the ground up?

It feels like a potential new build. Much faster.

new dock icon
view --> show sidebar
now if they included streaming radio, like pandora or spotify, that would be a big deal.

It seems like a UI redesign and some background refinement because it definitely lags less than previous.
I doubt we'll ever get a complete rebuild of iTunes for Windows

Hmm I'm interesting in how good this will be. I didn't mind iTunes 10 that much, but its RAM use would go up quite a bit over time from starting at about 150MB going up to around 600MB+. Usually around that latter number, the software would start acting up.

There was a delay in availability for Windows - I checked as recently as about half an hour ago and it was not showing up when I ran Check for Updates in iTunes. It's there now, though.

I like the new UI, does seem snappier. A little rough on my machine at work but I think its a network issue or something because using it is fine once it loads, it's just the store that is lagging on my work machine.
On my SSD at home it's certainly faster than v10, especially switching between sections/areas of the store and the program itself.

So, I was using the new UI, and things were going well until...
I tried to use my mouse button to make me go back, which worked in iTunes 10, but it doesn't work in iTunes 11. Backspace also doesn't work properly. This is rather annoying as I prefer looking at what my apps are changing before I update them, so I end up going back a lot (I have 13 app updates today!).

Fail in my opinion.
I want a customizable color schemes and the check marks in RED so you won't go blind looking thru the library as to what is checked and not checked.
It's time iTunes gave the user a little ability over how iTunes looks and feels on their particular machine.
Give us selectable color schemes and tweakable layouts.
Otherwise, don't bother.
iTunes is still one of the most irritating software programs around.
And least user friendly.
You either do it their way, or no way.

Yea, I just tried it too, no dice. I had never really bothered bother so I won't miss it, but I feel your pain.

Have you met Apple?
You really need to use more software too if you think that iTunes ranks as one of the most irritating programs around. This isn't a measuring contest, I'm just saying that although iTunes (and the whole ecosystem) can be annoying at times, it is NOTHING compared to what I have to deal with on a daily basis at work. iTunes plays my music, and puts it on my phones, that's all I need it to do, and it manages to do it without crapping the bed. I cannot say that for what I have to use at work.

Installed it and started clicking around. The first album I clicked on locked-up for over a minute. When I was convinced I'd have to kill the process, I opened a browser to come here and post my experience. Suddenly, iTunes started responding.

Much faster than iTunes 10 in Windows 7 x64, it used to load slower than Photoshop and I'm using an SSD. I like the interface in Artists view. Seems like a winner so far...

It's really just an inconvenience as there's still a back button, but I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to the user experience... especially when the update was all about addressing said experience!
Although, it's definitely odd that the back button on my mouse doesn't work at all, and backspace works, but not correctly. I was at the following pages... app updates > app 1 > app updates *clicked back button* > app 2 ... and when I hit backspace from app 2's page, it brought me back to app 1, which if you think of iTunes like a browser (it really is), app 1 shouldn't even exist in my history anymore since I hit back and went to another page.

I've never really understood the iTunes hate nor have I had it be so unmanageable that it ruins the experience. With that, I am usually a little bewildered when people make it sound like iTunes ran over their dog while running off with their missus!

What problem are you seeing? I'm not sure when I downloaded it or what I did to download it, but I was able to get the new Anandtech podcast through iTunes. I checked to make sure it wasn't some weird streaming link, and it's definitely on my PC as an ~85MB MP4.

The new iTunes is very nice personally. Much better UI performance and much more intuitive to use. This is a huge improvement for the better.
