Default So my Galaxy Nexus is Slow as Hell Now

Openning the default texting app takes 3-4 seconds. Sending a simple text message lags after hitting enter. Typing in text sometimes lags too.

I've also noticed lag in other apps but the most noticeable is the texting app.

I have default Android 4.2 - not rooted. No special apps. Just normal apps.

What gives? It wasn't this slow before. Makes me hate Android. It's almost as slow as my 6 year old iPhone 3G.

Lots of people reporting issues with the new 4.2 update on XDA:

Maybe an app that you downloaded running in the background?

No, the only non Google app I have running in the background is Facebook, USA today, and a 3D clock. I haven't installed any new apps in a long time but this just recently started happening.

I'm running 4.2 on my SGSII and it flies. The hardware is only marginally better than in the Nexus.

Is your battery life suffering? Perhaps download betterbatterystats or Dr Power and check for misbehaving apps.

Alternatively, you could try a custom ROM or kernel, or perhaps change the scheduler.

SHOstock3 is based on the leaked XXLSJ firmware for the international GSII. There are a few bugs but I expect it to be totally usable as a daily driver in a few days once the hardware button remapping is worked out. Other than "Sammy Bean stock v2" and SHOstock3, all others currently out are based on AOSP (and not touchwiz).

As a side note, I expect rollouts for 4.2 will start within the next month or so for our device.

I'm waiting for the kernel issues to get sorted out, then I'll flash to Shostock 3. Hopefully AJ will bust out a Semi JB based on an int'l release.

Mine's all choppy and ganked up too, what is going on?
Can't even multitask anymore, crunches down to like 2 frames a second.
Going to read that entire xda thread.

I was happy with the smoothness when I first started out with JB. But now it's very laggy.

I don't know if it's 4.2's problem or just Android slowing down due to apps and general usage.

It's definitely a jellybean problem. Even on my Nexus S, the difference between ICS or even Gingerbread and JB over time is a big difference.

I assume you're waiting for the quantum computing age to get a phone then.

Strange. Many people seem to have random issues. I have been running Android 4.2 stock on my GNex for over a week now and have really not felt any lag at all.

Slightl delay between clicking lock button and actual closing of screen.

Are people being pushed 4.2 on the GNex for VZW now?

Yeah I'm not sure why but it seems like my keyboard just doesn't pop up from time to time. And that time to time has become more frequent. It's the little stuff like this that makes me long for iOS on better hardware.

And I'm still on 4.1.1...!

No problem for me as well on 4.2 stock. I updated first night it was available.

I noticed it too when running 4.2 on my GNex. It wasn't very pronounced but it was definitely noticeable, especially considering how smooth 4.1 was on the GNex.

Have you considered doing a factor reset and starting from scratch? It does wonders in Windows (I know they aren't exactly the same), but it's worth a try.

I haven't had a chance to really mess with my GNex after getting the Nexus 4, but from the few seconds I poked around after doing a factory reset on it, it felt better to me. Could be a placebo effect though.

Are you using Swype? It's a bug with the new sync feature. Just disable it in settings if this becomes an issue.

Yep, I'll give that a shot. Thanks for the heads up.

Not sure if I'd go through the hassle of a factory reset. Thanks for the suggestion.

Man, I can't believe it's already slow. It was just released not so long ago.
