128GB microSDXC, when?

Anyone got any idea when the 128GB microSDXC cards will be released?

I'm trying to hold off on buying a 64GB one but if its going to be a while then I might just get one anyway.

They're few and far between, let alone 128GB. There's also some 80GB limitation or something somewhere.

You just have to reformat them from exFAT to FAT32 (at least for the SGS2).

i know the htc rezound can address the 64gb ones. so theres definitely phones that can use at least the 64gb

Let's be honest... people that have the money to consider a 128GB microSD most certainly have the latest greatest device.

I've not looked up for other phones but I think most Android phones shouldn't have a problem as long as you reformat the cards. Theres nothing special about the SGS2 that allows it.

The only reason why I would ever want to stick a 128GB SD card in my phone is so that I can transfer/download large files (i.e. BR rips), which FAT32 cannot do.

You'd have to get a non-stock ROM or Kernel with support for ext2/3/4 (preferably 2 IMHO so you don't have the constant indexing. Also be sure it's class 10 so it has write level wear algorithms to make it last longer.

I've got that anyway but why?

Whats wrong with FAT32? I wont be using any really big files and if I format it to ext2 then windows is not going to play nice when I try to transfer files on to it.

I think people at XDA were getting about 9/20 MB/s R/W using 64GB cards formatted to FAT32 so, yeah, your not going to want to be filling and emptying it too obtain. And FAT32 doesn't support large files either.

Nah the biggest thing that I'll put on there will probably be 700mb AVIs.

Anyway as there seems to be no news about the 128gb ones I think I'll order a 64gb one and see how it goes.

So anyway, I went ahead and got the 64gb card and it arrived today.

Put it in my SGS2 and it offered to format it, did that and its working fine.

Speedwise seems equivalent to a class 8 SDHC card (about 8/20 MB/s).

Thanks for the update.

Now that I learned my Transformer Prime takes NTFS cards by default I am really tempted to get one of these for Blu ray rips. I have a few that won't even fit on 32GB cards.

The sad thing is that Windows Phone handles SD cards in a far superior way than Android. It's only really used in specific circumstances for music, video, photos, and documents and the OS manages everything, apps are not allowed to directly write to the SD card.

Thats the ideal way to to it I think.

Stick 16gb in the phone to handle the OS and every app install you'll ever need and a big arse SDcard for all your media. Although I want my camera app to be able to record direct to the SDcard (if thats what you meant by apps not writing to the SDcard).

I love my 64gb micro sd. I use it as a nano USB drive. A 128GB would be awesome.
