Need a new gaming monitor and am confused

Would like a gaming monitor (only for gaming), and after lots of research am now completely confused. I guess I went too much "into the weeds".
I play shooters and RPG. (Witcher, Skyrim, Crysis, Deus Ex....)

TN or IPS???
60hz or 120hz???
1080p or higher res????
HELP

Video card: 1 Radeon 7870 Hawk
CPU: i5 3570k (Ivy)
Mobo: Asus P8Z77-V Pro

At this point, don't care about 3d.
Price range 200.00-300.00 (The less expensive, the better.)
Size 24"
Just want a decent monitor with good color, framerate, and resolution that will work well with the vid card on hi/max settings with AA et al.

TN, at your budget, you won't find an IPS panel in the size you want. 60 hz and 1080p because, again, you will not find a better resolution or 120 hz in your budget.

Dell 2312hm when it goes on sale for like 229.99 usd? IPS, lower input latency than almost all other monitors on the market except old CRT's, no worse ghosting than standard 2ms TN panels? Look it up if interested, read the review on TFT-Central.

I've recommended the Dell's a couple of times in the last few days, and I'm not trying to fanboy for their products but in the case of the Ultrasharps, they're just an incredibly good value for the money for anyone not looking to spend over 400 bucks.

The BenQ's are pretty low quality monitors. Many of them have horrendous ghosting issues and good color presentation, or poor color presentation and less ghosting.

They certainly do have esports trying to market the hell out of them though.

As far as if IPS is good for gaming or not, it strictly depends on which IPS monitor you are talking about. A lot of them have ghosting issues or input latency, a couple of them have neither.

A single 7870 isn't going to pull 120 fps reliably in some of the upcoming shooters, so I'm not sure what it is about 120hz that appeals to you unless you're planning to add another video card.

Between Asus and Acer, Asus makes better products. But they are more alike than unlike when you compare either to some of the higher quality options on the market (a lot of them being outside of your stated price range admittedly).

You'll have more luck asking about specific models, since when you start comparing Asus BenQ Samsung and even Acer to an extent, the major things that separate their products actually vary from model to model within each company's own lineup. Some models have worse backlight bleed, some have less true color representation, some have poor base-designs that cause them to wobble if your desk is nudged, and so on. There are a lot of issues that can for the most part only be sorted out reliably by informed third party monitor review sites, of which there are notably few. Checking what few sites there are will also help you avoid threads like this that usually start to devolve into "post what monitor you are using" more than any kind of objective comparison.

I've been using Eizo S-PVAs with nary a hitch for years now.
I supposed if you're super-super sensitive, you may pick something up, but the advantage of the image being relatively stable to angular offset makes it up.

Of course, cheaper PVA panels without a balanced over-drive implementation are going to be not as great.

Basic advice: Head over to a big box store and check out one screen after another for the features you need. Buy from them, if you find anything that pleases you. Ask to test for pixel errors on site, before buying.

It's the least painless way to get the screen you want. Reviews and recommendations are not necessarily going to be good enough.

- you don't need to pull reliable 120FPS to benefit from a 120Hz display
- you can play older stuff at 120FPS

What would you choose between Dell S2340L and U2312HM...for someone who plays rpg-genre games like skyrim,gothic,where landscapes and colours matter.

Both are ips,both have almost the same response time according to the reviews,only S2340L is slightly slower,but it has a glossy finish so better colours...

Or should I go for a Benq GW2450HM?

Well I can't think of any reason to get the S2340L. The S2440L is only $250 at Best Buy. Out of the box my S2440L had a greenish image but I Fixed that by adjusting the RGB sliders in the monitor OSD.

The U series have really bad matte coatings. Trust me, it's very noticeable. It looks like there's always a thick coat of dust on the screen.

Honestly, the retarded gamma curve available on the XL2420T is pretty damn useful. It makes things look ridiculously ugly in comparison to an IPS or CRT until you get used to it, but I find it more important than Picmip and most image settings in a competitive environment.

No, seriously, if it's for pure gaming Asus' 144hz monitor is the best choice. That increased fluidity is awesome, provided your computer can handle running games at 100+ fps (144+best).

It's a matter of opinion whether you prefer it or not. Is it a deal breaker for gaming? Come on. lol no.

Their coating has a light grainy appearance on pure whites which you either obsess over, look past, or prefer due to using your computer in a room that gets a lot of glare either from light fixture placement, windows, etc.

At this point you're significantly over-thinking things, and asking questions with subjective answers that only you can answer for yourself.
