OMG! politicians elected into positions of power want more power!
And even Ron Paul isn't going to save us from that axiom. He would lap it up as much as anyone.

When Obama leaves office, the Socialists will be able to enter your home with no warrant or reason, seize everyone and their possessions without cause and look for reasons to prosecute... Kind of like they are going to do with your Facebook, Youtube, Gmail, Skype, Live Drive, Dropbox, accounts....without notice or consent....just go reading your private messages and look for a reason to prosecute.
Total BS.

Umm, you do realize that the Republicans (both house and admin) got this party really rocking with the Patriot act, right? Or do you not mind so much if all of the above is done by "non-socialists"?

Exactly.
1) What you make public is public and subject to judgement....by me.
2) What you make private should be kept private. That should also include the knowledge and piece of mind knowing that your private communications are your OWN until you choose to make your thoughts, videos, etc, PUBLIC. See item 1.

Our online lives are very, very public. Learn to accept that, and move on. What you mention up there, has nothing to do with your "online life." Leave your faux morality at the doorstep and stop attempting to intrude on others' 1st amendment rights with your preposterous meddling.
You want to keep your email private? fine, but that has nothing to do with anyone's "online life" and is a separate discussion.

You are barking up the wrong tree, as usual, making hay because I flag videos of people who turn their backside to a camera, pull down their pants, shove AAA batteries up their naked rear ends and then let them slide back out. If this moron had kept the video private, then it would still be on Youtube.
If I had the power to spy into peoples private videos and flag them I would not because keeping the video private IS following the TOS.
Know the difference. I help to keep the public side of Youtube safe and wholesome for everyone.

The left has labeled the entire right as a bunch of racists women haters. I don't here you complaining about that.

Well I'm not sure how you expect to "this current location" me. I don't even know what that means. I think the clear racism behind the birther movement and the volume of anti-women comments were behind that view. It's not like one or even only a dozen Republican politicians or talking heads showed their racism and misogyny. And no, not all Republicans are racist or woman haters. There's just a large group within the GOP that are one or both.

Seems like this will simply spur people to create apps & programs to encrypt emails. Decrypting homebrewed encryption (by people who mathematically know what they're doing) would be incredibly difficult.) Sure, maybe if enormous computing resources were used for one individual's email, you could decrypt it.
But, encryption would prevent massive fishing expeditions - E.g., searching every single email ever sent through gmail for certain words & flagging those emails.
End result: when they DO have someone they can get a warrant to watch emails for, they'll be unable to do so. Cleverly done, even if such a message is viewed, or intercepted in transit, to decrypt it would require access to both the sender's and the receiver's computer.

One cannot grow government without also empowering government. The more powerful and intrusive the federal government becomes, the more power we cede to it, the more power it takes. That is an immutable rule of life; you simply cannot have a Soviet-style redistribution system that does not have Soviet-style powers.
In all fairness, Republican lawmakers want to read your email too. They just can't figure out how to log on after a hard day at the airport restroom.

The attack on the 4th ammendment has been relentless by both sides for near on 30 years.

This is good advice. If we assume that someone is always reading our email and listening to our phone conversations, we hopefully won't say anything stupid or incriminating. The only party that might actually not reach for more power, the Libertarians, haven't a chance in Hell of achieving anything more than fleeting local or state power. And one suspects that, like the Cistercians, Franciscans, and Dominicans, should they ever achieve major success they would soon morph into the thing they nominally oppose.
It's pointless to crusade for the privacy rights of people who'd rather have a handout. Just accept that electronic communications are not private and move on.

This seems far more expansive/intrusive than the Patriot Act. Far more.

Yes, but you can't really argue with Bowfinger's point that this is another way in which the two parties are more alike than different.

No the point is that the Dems are absolute hypocrits. If a Rebublican does it then it's the end of the world as we know it. If a Demoncrat does it then it's fine.
