I'm not sure if this was posted already, but Microcenter is now selling Dell 50 GB SSD SATA2 drives for $29.99:

They seem to be rebranded Samsung drives.

wish someone would buy me one and i pay their gas there.. microcenter is so far and i want this and the 2500k for 99$ deal. sounds great.

Keep in mind that these are are first generation SSD's running SATA II and are very low in IOPS and speeds compared to modern day SSDs. This all being said, its a super cheap way to get a rock solid reliable SSD! I would be all on these for my Nexenta deployment but need them to be SATA III

Since these are so old - do they support TRIM?

After searching a bit, I found the Samsung drive P/N, and then searching some more, could not find any evidence of TRIM support.

So I think I'm going to pass. Newegg is going to have 120GB Vertex 3 drives for $49.99 FS on the 22nd of Nov.

No worries, I'm a LONG time lurker. I don't think the CPU deal is still valid, I was referring to the ssd.

It's says "Originally $34.99" so not way cheaper than regular price. My guess is that this is equivalent to the 430 series of Samsung SSDs. I still have 2 of those, and they work fine, but are a little slower than other drives of that era, let along modern SSDs. They should support TRIM, and you can perform a manual TRIM if the Samsung toolbox software recognizes them.

I picked up one of these SSDs earlier today. The reps at Microcenter said these SSDs came in with this week's shipment and were generally clueless about these drives.

I hooked up the Dell G914J SSD drive to a spare PC at work and ran CrystalDiskInfo and CrystalDiskMark to see what this drive is all about:

According to CrystalDiskInfo, this is a Samsung MCCOE50G5MPQ-0VAD3 SSD drive and does not have TRIM support. Read and write speeds on this drive weren't so hot either, with seq. read benching at 117 MB/s and seq. write benching at 72 MB/s. CrystalDiskInfo marked the health of the drive in 95%.

These drives aren't so hot after all.

It isn't a speed demon but pretty solid drive. 0% CPU utilization and low random access shows a decent internal controller.

Hey guys..

Came across this post while learning more about the drive and registered just to put some input in. (I'm the only idiot who left feedback on Microcenter. I loaded this drive on a HP Dv6000 and installed a fresh copy of Windows 8. For the dollar, this drive moves!! I know the crystal util said that TRIM was not enabled but fsutil returned a positive result. I've only used it for about a week but I was so happy with it I bought 3 more. My logic is this....

Most desktop machines use a SSD for the OS and a few select programs for fast operation and a platter based for everything else. If this is true then 50GB is just as useful as 100+. The only difference being a few more programs can be installed. I'm going to take two and stripe them to see the true potential of these little beasts.

Whats odd is that anywhere else on the net these list for $100+ ....WHY?
They have a sticker labeled "enterprise certified" or something like that.....were these used as server grade drives a couple years ago???

Either event they're not bad... They certainly breathed new life into a Intel T5750.

Think this will help breathe life in a 3 year old Acer AMD V120 (2.2ghz) single core laptop? I'd love to get a new laptop but this thing does everything I want it to, it just crawls anymore compared to when I got it, and I really don't have a ton of stuff running. That, and the battery only holds about 1.5 hours anymore. I can get a cheapie off ebay for $20.

the older 7mm have no caps so they are dog slow. the 14mm have caps and are a bit faster. these are server drives aka SLC so speed isn't everything when they will last forever. Well as long as you upgrade the firmware.

no trim bro. these were sold in servers and storage units.

honestly you'd be better off with a $30/AR OCZ drive unless you are building a giant raid of these. 16 of these btw are slower than 4 samsung 830's

@Emulex: you mentioned upgrading firmware. Neither Samsung nor Dell seem to provide firmware for this drive. Any pointers appreciated. I picked up one of these as well. Had 230+ power on hours right out of the package! So, looks like these may be "gently" used... Either ways, if these are really SLCs, well worth the price.
