What Happened to ScyTHE
What happened to Scythe?
I broke a fin off a SM1425SL12M and can't find a replacement. New Egg says it's DISCONTINUED
???
If so, then recommend me a similar replacement

That seems to be a 140mm 1200 RPM fan with 120mm mounting, shouldn't be too hard of a job to find one with similar specs. Maybe a Phanteks fan?
Huh. Looks like there are almost no Scythe products on newegg anymore. Sup with that.
EDIT: What were you doing that you managed to break a fin? Did you try to bend it more for improved airflow?

I bumped the case and the fan moved and hit a cooling fin. It was never "installed" just sat on top of a Heat-sink. It was such a quiet fan with great airflow it's almost a shame
There are almost no vendors that sell them that i'd feel comfortable buying from.. i'll have to look again but the nearest eBayer is a UK place, ha = nope.

Scythe Mugen 4? So soon? :O
Seems odd still. How could a new product range explain the unavailability and discontinuation of pretty much all Scythe products on newegg?

They probably had a huge production run and then geared down. They'll start up another run as everything runs low... these probably aren't manufactured constantly.

Actually, it turns out they're closing their US branch.
Quote:
On Monday afternoon, our purchasing department was informed of the unfortunate news that Scythe USA, one of the companies from which we stock products, will be shutting down their operations within the United States of America at the end of November.
According to the CEO of Scythe, Masahiro Sakai, the unexpected closure of Scythe USA’s parent company is the cause for the sudden end of operations. However, Scythe Japan will still maintain operations and will take care of whatever orders Scythe USA cannot fulfill by their closure date.
...
Scythe USA will still accept purchase orders until Halloween, and RMA and warranty requests will be fulfilled until November 15, 2012, in advance of Scythe USA closing its doors fifteen days later on November 30.

There are so many garbage fan manufacturers that it is too hard to compete probably at a low price. That is why it is hard to find good fans a lot of the time, such as the Typhoon.

They can be had for ~$4. XSPC makes a good line of cheap fans as well. My Yates aren't loud at all. IMO there isn't much use paying over $10 per fan.

Yeah, I'll have to find some new fans as well. Obviously my CPU cooler has served me well since Core 2's introduction (especially getting it open box), but I also have a couple 120mm Scythe Minebea fans still running in my case. MTBF for those is 20 years.

Wow, that's disappointing. I absolutely loved Scythe S-FLEX fans, probably bought at least 10 of them over the past couple years for various builds. Good airflow and super quiet. I was even considering buying some for my new build I'm starting this week.

Yea, S-FLEX E's are so nice. I still have one extra in case one of mine dies.

u can get the sflex though another vendor.
scythe didnt make there own fans, they rebraded oems.
you can still get the GT's though nidac, as the GT was always a nidac fan.
The s-flex i believe used the sony motor which is discontinued.
I believe u might find some artic cooling fans which use the same motor.
Scythe was a great company for fans tho, i agree, they will be sadly missed, and with having to do business with japan, it will mean the price on the fan's will probably increase.

Don't shed too many tears yet:

Looks like they may be resurrected. I use their fans exclusively, so I'm hoping this is true.
