Default asus 670 top or asus 7970 top

on ebay the asus 670 top is priced at $380 and the asus 7970 top ghz edition is $365 total. both are used and I wonder which one will give me better performance?

I really depends on the games you will be playing. Some games work better with nVidia and others will work better with AMD Radeons.

Search benchmarks for both the graphics cards and compare them on the games you will be playing or plan on playing.

It's hard to tell when you are buying used. All else equal the 7970 will beat the 670.

Considering you can get 7970's as low as $360 ($330AR) with 3 free games new, I wouldn't consider either of them good value.

This. Unless you are in a place/area/country where you can't get in on some of these deals.

Based purely on the OP's question, the 7970 will be faster, especially if you overclock both cards and compare.

One overclocked its quite a bit faster other than BF3 or other few games

NCIX had a MSI 7970 reference card on for $329 this past weekend with the 3 game bundle...

Also better if you plan on going Crossfire....

I owned the Asus 7970 at one point, massive card but cool and quiet. Make sure to get the TOP version though if you want your Voltage unlocked.

Here is a 1Ghz brand new HD7970 with a good cooler and 3 free games for $388 or a $390 1Ghz Gigabyte HD7970 Windforce 3x that also comes with 3 free games.

I don't see any reason to buy a used HD7970 Asus TOP card with some warranty gone, no free games and Asus TOP was never a good overclocker this generation.

As far as performance goes, a 1Ghz HD7970 now = GTX680, not GTX670:
http://www.legionhardware.com/articl...t_clock,5.html

If I were you, I'd just pick up an HD7950 and overclock it. Better deal than GTX670/680/7970. Then you have $90-100 saved towards your next GPU upgrade. An overclocked HD7950 is an amazing value right now and is not much behind an overclocked 7970.

As next generation games get more demanding, it's unlikely that a GTX680/7970 OC will be much faster than an HD7950 OC and when all 3 of these GPUs are too slow, you'll have $90-100 saved for upgrading.

Guess I shoulda also added this to my question.

I only have $504 to spend and I want to get a used card of a asus 670 or 7970 cause it was cheaper for the budget I'm working with. I was spending $105 on newegg for the h80i and a set of corsair sp120 high p fans and with the total including the card it would be around $498 or $502

ok, here is what I'm looking at.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121560

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103089

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835200051 x4

this totals out to $504 right on my budget.

this good enough?

This Sapphire card is less expensive and comes with a higher factory OC. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814202008

The V6GT is not that great for what it costs. What CPU do you have and how far are you planning to overclock?

As for the additional case fan, what case do you have and what's the current case fan setup?

I've a crappy $15 cpu cooler i got of ebay to replace the stock. I'm running a fx 6100 black edition oc to 4.0ghz and I'm keeping it at that.

I've a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835200051 this case and the case fans suck so hard. not good at pushing air and extremely low rpm.

For that OC just get a Hyper 212 Evo (which should actually be just as good as V6GT). $30 on Amazon.

You linked the case fan again, not the case.

With 4x 120mm fans I can't imagine you needing more airflow for a 4GHz FX-6100 and a single 7970, even if the fans seem low RPM to you. CPU temperatures will be fixed by the Hyper 212 Evo anyway. So I don't recommend a replacement fan... but I'm not exactly recommending against it either, if you want to try new fans, go ahead

As suggested above the Gigabyte HD 7970 OC with 3 games (Farcry 3 , Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs) is a very good deal. I have completed sleeping dogs and its a very nice game. Hitman has released to very good reviews and Farcry 3 is a hotly anticipated title.

http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=675...e&promoid=1209

why go for a used card when you get a much better deal on a new card.

Just thought Id mention out of the three 7970s Ive had my hands on the Asus overclocked the best. Mine would do 1210 core on stock voltage. I had a Diamond ref 7970 that couldnt oc past 1125 no matter how much voltage i pumped to it

I do fully agree on the 7950 its hard to recommend a 7970 over it when overclocking comes into play
