Windows 8 v 7
I am looking to build a gaming rig around black friday/cyber monday and am lost when it comes to OS. What 64 bit system is better for gaming and more stable?

If you don't mind the interface or don't mind modifying it, go with 8 since it's pretty much just as stable and as fast or faster than 7 for gaming. It will also be supported longer.

check for win 8 sound drivers for your system.
-gaming is no fun without sound.
-creative drivers nov.30-2012
-drivers for my forte sc mid . jan. 2013
-some beta drivers work -with or with out working consoles [eg .not saving settings]

I hate the metro interface in windows 8, but if you're gonna build a new system, you might as well go with the newest OS.

Start8 solves the Metro issue completely. Start8 FTW!

Agreed. I have to remind myself every so often that I am running Win8 and not 7. Once you have Start8 installed it just feels like the next version of desktop Windows.

Precisely my thoughts as well. Makes it what it would have logically been. If I ever install 8 for a client, it will have Start8 for sure.

When I first installed Win8, I did the downloaded upgrade from MS. I tried Classic Shell and then Start8, neither were quite equivalent to the true start menu which you COULD get back in the Consumer Preview, but they got rid of for the final release. After doing a clean install of 8, I haven't bothered reinstalling Classic Shell or Start8, and I've been just fine. If there was an option within windows to get the true start menu back, I'd probably enable it, but whatever. 8 is better regardless.
Someone else posted this link in another thread, it's an interesting read about 8 and probably gives you a few more reasons to choose it over 7: http://arstechnica.com/information-t...-of-windows-8/

Windows 7. Do not fee the Windows 8 monster. The less people that use 8, gives us hope that they will fix everything the messed up with 9.

Change can be a frightening thing, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate ,and hate leads to suffering.
Beware you are going towards the dark side by not changing ,embrace Win8 only then will you become a Jedi.

I do not mind change, when it is a positive thing. I loved Win7 vs. XP. But there are zero redeeming qualities about Windows 8.

Improved start up and shut down, lower battery consumption on laptops etc, better security ie comes with Defender built-in that is first thing to load ,Secure Boot, native USB 3.0 support, full support for DX11.1,Microsoft Store, improved Task Manager,Account Sync, multiple monitors, new refresh lets you reinstall Windows without losing your personal data, chkdsk (improved In Windows 8, the GUI version of chkdsk can scan an active drive, something the Windows 7 GUI version can't do),I could list many more improvements/features but don't try to kid yourself Win8 offers nothing new over Win7.
