So, which money grubbing company pushed the mandatory carbon monoxide monitors in CA?
Supposedly all homes have to have these monitors to ”protect” yourselves. Another thing to fear, and it's being pushed hard on radios. Who's behind it?

It would be REALLY stupid for you NOT to have one.
Another case of Government trying to protect the stupid....I don't agree with it, I like Darwin at work.

We don't have one and am not getting one. Reason why? We live in an all electric home.

How many people died in CA as a result of carbon monoxide annually? What were the reasons? Find those answers, and then feel stupider than you already shown yourself to be.

I have one and had it wake me up at 3AM when my furnace was malfunctioning.
It cost me all of 50 bucks and potentially saved my life.
Moral of the story... stop bitching. Don't put your family at risk.

That's been the law here for a few years. There are also specific requirements for smoke detectors that a vast majority of the city's population does not honor or probably even know exist. Only when you buy a house do you learn such things.

I think some of you are confusing the smoke detector with this carbon monoxide detector, they are two separate things, and both are now required.

carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless and tasteless. First signs of carbon monoxide poisoning is subtle enough that most people would just brush it off. When you realize something's wrong it's usually too late.
If you have a smoke detector in your home I don't see why you wouldn't just slap one on, its one of those 2 minute jobs that can potentially save your life.
I'd much rather let darwinism take its course though.

I have gas in my house, so I have combo smoke/CO detectors. But people who live in all-electric houses really don't need 'em IMHO.

If something in my attached garage caught fire, my home alarm smoke detectors would go off. I don't need a carbon mono detector. That is basically only for gas furnaces, gas hot water tanks, and the such. An electric home has no natural gas.
I suppose it could come in handy if the wife wanted to commit suicide in the garage with the doors closed and the car running. Not really sure what I would do if that did happen?!?!

Most of the states that have CO alarm laws have a provision for attached garages, and it makes perfect sense to me.
For example, snippet from Florida's law:
"having a fossil-fuel-burning heater or appliance, a fireplace, or an attached garage shall have an approved operational carbon monoxide alarm installed within 10 feet of each room used for sleeping purposes."

What is the regulation there on the carbon monoxide detectors? We just needed one per floor of the house. And no real requirement beyond that.
Smoke detectors were much more annoying and we had to buy about 7 of them. There were a few in the house already but they didn't meet the new requirement that they either be hard-wired or have 10-year non-removable batteries.

Didn't know Carbon Dioxide detectors were mandatory too.
