As a life long union member who has had the pleasure of being affiliated with five different unions throughout my working career I am attentive of your concerns.
I can assure you that any organization that is affiliated with Organized Labor in America is put under a microscope.
For many reasons, if the accounting principles and auditing systems that have been placed upon Organized Labor affiliates were to be adopted by ALL branches of business AMERICA WOULD BE FAR BETTER OFF.
I had the honor to be a financial trustee for many years of the last union that I belonged to. I can assure you, every penny of the union's finances was accounted for and audited by the Department of Labor. Unannounced audits could be taken at any time. And they were!
Perhaps one day the accounting models of today’s, legally recognized Organized Labor associations will be more broadly applied - for the good of ALL OF US.
