Assassins Creed III
Got the game yesterday and played for a couple of hours last night...
Same old game play, just new faces and towns of course. Graphics are great just like the last game.
The story seems along the lines of a hidden city kind of deal, much like the national treasure movie... Going to be interesting to see where it goes.
One thing i noticed right off the bat. First scene in the game you have to climb in a theatre to kill a guy. IN past games, it would be up to you to figure out how to get up there. However, it looks like they put a system in that "guides" you on the way you need to go. I always enjoyed the non-linear aspect of that, where there where 100 way to get done what you needed to go. I might be a bit upset if its no longer like that....

I just finished Revelations tonight. I think I might pick up #3 within the next few days. I'm really looking forward to a change of scenery. Even though the last 4 games have been in different cities, they all have the same feel. I think the logic behind the titling is that the #d games are big improvements/overhauls of the gameplay? If so that will be refreshing, since AC is long overdue for an overhaul, but I haven't read/watched much at all of #3.

That's probably just the first mission. Most games have a first level that walk you through the game mechanics.

I remember most of the AC games (if not all) had a guided tutorial mission to start off with. I remember AC2 did. That shouldn't be there past that mission.

Am I the only one with weird graphical glitches going on on the Xbox 360 version? Like, the shadows are completely screwy and all pixelated. It's really distracting. Not sure what the deal is with that as I haven't seen anyone else talking about it.

I always assumed the games were numbered because they introduced a new protagonist from Desmond's lineage. AC1 had Altair; AC2 had Ezio; AC3 has Connor.

Ya I realized that after I posted. I think I got it mixed up with GTA too.

So is this one a little less polished, with more bugs in the way of clipping, AI errors, etc? At least one review montioned it and IMO Brotherhood and Revelations were pretty bad in this regard and it's what hampered my enjoyment of them. I don't remember AC2 having such problems.

I would say its no worse than the other games after playing for a while..
The frontier is huge and there are lots of things to do which is pretty sweet. Hunting, playing tarzan from trees.
I am getting more into the story now. There seems to be a lot more bad guys that walk around than i remember seeing in the other games for sure.

Ah you're right, I keep forgetting Ubisoft loves delaying games for greasy pirate PC gamers. Maybe it'll go on sale on PSN then and I'll grab it there.

Use a controller like it was made for. This is not a shooter, you gain nothing from using a keyboard and mouse... in fact (like you say) you LOSE a lot

Unless you play Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and do the Leonardo Gatling Gun mission. That was pure hell on a controller for me.

Supposedly many missions have a required way for them to be completed. I have not played this yet but after talking to a few people and reading reviews this is the response I am getting. That the game almost requires you to complete a mission a certain way or fail and have to try again.
Is this how it is or am I misunderstanding?

I have a few hours in now. There are a few missions with directed paths, they seem to be few and far between.
There seems to be quite a bit more to the economy aspect and the side missions. The frontier is a vast area and there are lots of missions to do. There is also crafting in the game now...
As soon as i got access to the frontier i went around and beat ll the forts i could in boston and frontier. That was quite difficult with early weapons, hopefully it pays off in the end.

No. There are just bonuses to complete it in a certain way (i.e. under a certain time / a certain type of assassination, etc.). You need to complete it in a certain way if you want 100% DNA sync but you don't fail the mission if you dont.

I must admit the ads for this game are awesome. I can't wait for the PC release.
This one especially got me pumped up:

I've played all of the previous games and I'm about 8 hours into this one. Notoriety and open conflict seem to be much more difficult. It's very easy to get into stage 3 notoriety where all enemies attack you on sight (super sensitive). In previous games, it seemed pretty easy to clear out that area by killing 6-8 enemies. Now they constantly have back up coming and I can get about 20 bodies deep before I'm outnumbered and have to make a run for it. It seems a lot harder to hide now, too.
