Steven Sinofsky leaves Microsoft
I'm not sure this belongs here. And by that I mean just here. It belongs everywhere.

For his part, Sinofsky was gracious in his comments.
"It is impossible to count the blessings I have received over my years at Microsoft. I am humbled by the professionalism and generosity of everyone I have had the good fortune to work with at this awesome company," Sinofsky said in a statement.

Only thing wrong with Win8 is that it's a tablet OS and I'm a desktop user.
A few small tweaks to allow me to boot up the desktop and not force me into metro would have made Win8 a mandatory buy. As of now it's just another Vista til I wait for Win9. Totally happy with Win7 with no reason to deal with Metro.
As for Sinofsky, how was he controversial?

With storage pooling and parity it still has benefit beyond windows 7.

If I had to guess, they began serious discussion on Win9 and Microsoft's execs wanted to milk it which would cause a conflict. A future proof OS would need a "risky" new business model, but the dinosaurs above Sinofsky wouldn't have it.

This sucks. I actually liked where he was going with interfaces, hardware and the OS.
However the new Windows development lead, Julie Larson-Green is pretty capable from her track record.

Windows 8 is not as bad as it looks. If I could just disable the start menu, I would love it even more.
We have a touch screen PC at work and Windows 8 is lovely on it...but when I come home to my regular PC, I don't want to have all that flashy shit going on in the Start "menu"

It's too bad because Windows 8 (sans Metro) is definitely an improvement over Windows 7. Metro itself isn't too bad, either, but the mix of it with the traditional desktop can be quite confusing and unproductive at times.

I wonder if Win9 will be a top-down new OS. Windows 8 is still based on the Vista kernel.

Well since MS is offering it as low as $40 dollars using this program for $5 dollars might not be that much of a premium to bring the start menu back to windows 8

By all accounts Start8 from Stardock is a very well written program that gives the menu back to users of windows 8 as an upfront and not hidden feature** and costs $5
Unless you go all freeware you probably spend additional money on security software when you buy a new OS so $5 dollars might not be such a big deal considering how MS is pushing win8 with these low prices**

I guess MS just has to mess up an OS in some way****** and pretending that a lot of people wouldn't miss the traditional start menu seems to be their mistake for win8**
