In general you want the fastest single card. SLI on the older 400 series was OK but honestly you would be better off selling and buying a new card or staying happy with what you have.

A 670 or 680 will give you better performance all around produce much less noise and heat. For me, the decision would come down to the money.

From what I've heard around here, gtx 470 Tri Sli is one of the best setups you can run. With that being said get a 7970 or possibly a gtx 670 or 7950

HD 7950 is the price performance king. overclocks very well . With 12.11b drivers HD 7950 (1.15 Ghz) is on par to slightly faster than GTX 680(1.25 Ghz). If you have any doubts you can ask HD 7950 users to post game benchmarks. will easily be 2x the perf of GTX 470.

ok looked at 7970 and the 670...my question is the memory clock. The Nvidia" looks" so much faster. anyone care to explain that to me?? what does it mean

A GTX 680 is just about double the fps in most games http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/519?vs=555 So even in absolute best case scenario for GTX 470 SLI it will probably be a tad but slower than a GTX 470.

A GTX 680 is about $465, and you can pick up used GTX 470 for $100-150. Assuming you can sell your GTX 470 (after fees/shipping etc), you could probably pull in about $80-120 to offset the cost of the GTX 680.

Personally, I'd go with the GTX 680. Sure, you're out of pocket more money initially, but when the next generation of cards launches you'll have something to sell that is still worth something. With two GTX 470s, you'll just have two cards that aren't worth much.

Of course there are other good options such as the GTX 670 or 7950 and 7970.

Stock vs stock there are times when a 680 will be nearly 2.5 times as fast as a 5870/470 level card.

Go with a 670 or 7970.. Both can be had for 350 or less and will easily outdo the 470.

Are you going to keep your 470 as a dedicated PhysX card?

O...i would have to get a bigger PS so that is a consideration....input and opinions welcome and wanted

I recommend selling your GTX 470 and going for a GTX 670. It will be about as fast as 2 GTX 470's in SLI, quieter, less power consumption, and not dealing with the cons of SLI.

A 650 psu should be able to run both cards. Try it and at worst the PSU will just shut down. And yes, get the new nvidia drivers, great improvement.

Get the latest Beta (310.54) to see the most improvement.
