Links to a Seagate, though, at that price, I'd be willing to take a chance with it, since it would only be used for backup.

Sounds like a great deal if this is what is inside

Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148844
$150

Wondering if anyone has ripped it out to use as an internal drive?

I have one of those and it has been pretty stable. Using HDTach to identify it, it doesn't identify the drive itself, but USB 3 transfers seem to be pretty good as I was getting about 134 MB/sec on average.

I have a BBY GC. I think it is for $40. Might be time to use it.

Interested in this drive for my father's office fileserver, but I only want the internal drive.

Whats the latest status on warranty on drives that have been removed from their enclosure? Last I heard lots of drive started having separate SKUs on the internal drive so they couldn't be warrantied without the enclosure. I'm sure thats still the case, just thought I should ask.
