meh... not much to look at imo. a lot of those deals are ones they've been running as shell shockers or daily deals in the past few weeks.

I bought the 750gb Toshiba external drive. Not a fantastic deal but pretty good IMO.

Many aren't out there raping deals on the fly...this lets those that missed those first deals reclaim them.
No major online company is going to post up a "Let's screw our value adder" mass email today.

Western Digital Red?
Edit: Huh - missed that announcement somewhere. Great to see we now have to pay a premium to get a 3 year warranty...

Thinking about getting a few of the hitachi deskstar HDs. 3 yr warranty on a 1tb hd is pretty good for $59.99. never owned hitachi though. anyone have experience with these drives? it has decent reviews.

Red is actually a nice improvement over the green.

I have a 1tb I use for storage never any issue I didn't cause. Not sure if same model or not as its almost 2yrs old I think. Would have to check tonight when get home.
That aside there are a lot of DOA and early failure 1 star reviews which don't look favorable to me. Most likely shipping damage so guess its a gamble. Bought mine at Fry's in store as I'm kinda HDD paranoid. I'd think the farther it ships the greater the chance of damage....Unless packaging is up to snuff.

I also have a 1TB Hitachi drive in my desktop for 2 years now; compared to WD, Seagate & Samsung, Hitachi is much louder (at least mine is).
I am too looking for a good backup hdd, but none of the deals screams "buy me" imo.

Hmm, if it's loud I'll have to skip it. Was planning on throwing it in my server.

Yes I did, and it gets much quiter by setting the AAM value lower, however the average access time goes up from 14.x to 18.x
I am using SSD so it doesn't bother me.

That's interesting. I have a set of 4 in my server in a RAID array and I don't even hear them.
