umm the cheapo ones i got at home depot 4 years ago are still going. so im pretty sure the panel is charging the battery.

then you dont use solar LED stick in the ground lights. if you want to light something up or look like the belliago casino then you spend the money for a wired system.
my neighbor hung a few solar lights in his tree and it looks kinda cool.

We got a cheap set(<$80) from Costco 5 years ago, have left them outside ever since through 4 winters and haven't had to replace the batteries. They still light up at night at least until I go to bed, so I don't care if they die after that.
They're more for decoration, can't expect these things to work like flood lights.

True, but the difference is that low-voltage ones don't require batteries and charging circuits. Less possible things to fail.

Most don't last very long. They typically are coming with NiCad batteries and most are in the form of AA batteries these days. They will work alright in the summer, but cold weather and short days/long nights don't do well for the batteries. I have a large number of post lights. They were about $3 each and look nice....they aren't bright enough to see by, but work good for helping realize where you are in relation to something. I'm using them to mark the edge of a lake so you know how far from shore you are....or how close to the water you are...
The batteries should be replaced yearly according to the manuals that came with my lights.

I have 6 lining our walk-way from the driveway. Some are in shade most of the day and about twice a month, I'll swap out all the batteries with freshly charged ones from the house. Been about 5 years for most of them. Seems to be ok , but if I needed any more, I would go with a wired set.

Yup, the solar lights may not last long, so keep your head up and try not to trip on them. Walking in the dark is dangerous...

I have a dozen high quality LED solar lights in my back yard. They're about four years old and still working well. I did have to replace the batteries a year ago on all of them. The lights I have charge even on cloudy days. They're pretty bright and last about ten hours.

The ones I got for my house have lasted 2 years so far. No batteries AFAIK, just solar (might be batteries in the housing but have never bothered to find out). They were pretty cheap so they aren't bright but I like them in my front yard like that. Subtle lights that don't draw too much attention.

I had solar and junked them...what a waste of $$ they are. I hardwired my new lights in and had bright led bi pins in them...love them
