I never thought of it that way...but I for sure will from now on. I just know that when one person at my job gets the flu, pretty soon whole sections of people have it. No matter how many Lysol wipes and bottles of hand sanitizer we have laying around, people are too freaking lazy to use them. So germs, cooties and plagues spread like wildfire around that place.

No one's said "I like to give my immune system a workout" yet?

Yes. Most of the pharmacies I see advertise between $25 and $30.

But my insurance covers them for free as preventative care.

Never have and never will get a flu shot as long as I have any say in the matter. I don't get the flu any more often than those who do get the flu shot. Besides, I question how effective they are anyway as I see people get the flu after the shots all the time.

My brother noticed when he was in the military (and flu shots were mandatory like everything is) every time they'd go around and give everyone on the ship the flu shots within a week it seemed half the ship had the flu. They'd always blame another source, but what would that other source be floating out in the middle of nowhere and the only exposure to the flu being that shot? Plus, if the flu shot was really that effective why did so many people still get the flu

But whatever.

Your flu shot doesn't really "kick in" for about two weeks after you get the shot. So wash your hands and be careful who breathes on you for another week or ten days.

I did get a free flu shot from work last week. So far, so good.

Don't you have to be in the low income bracket to get those free shots? At least that how I understand it around here.

So I survived every person I come into contact with on a daily basis having the flu. I was feeling GREAT while they were sick as dogs.

Then Tuesday happened. My bronchitis came at me like a pissed off pit bull and a sinus infection cold cocked me from behind. SON OF A BITCH!

Luckily I have 3 days off to OD on vitamin C, cough medicine and Dayquil.

I'm not sure how long ago it was, but apparently they used to use live (weakened) cultures. I don't know if that causes this or not but I've heard a lot of people say they get the flu after the shot. Every shot I have ever gotten has been a dead vaccination.

A lot of people really don't know what the hell they are talking about.

Vaccines don't prevent transmission or infection, they limit the course of infection to prevent serious complications or death. And there are 'strains' of the flu that are not covered by the flu vaccine. They only try to protect people from the three or four most likely and most virulent 'strains'.
