It's a tradeoff. Gorilla glass doesn't scratch as easily as plastic or polycarbonate used in the SGS3 or One X, but it shatters more easily.
|
When dealing with something to cover a screen that is a very reasonable approach. When dealing with the backing, not so much.

"Poor design" is a matter of opinion.

Only if you are discussing aesthetics. From any sort of durability/reliability/functionality standpoint plastic roflstomps glass for a backing. You know what glass does excel at though? Trapping heat.

In my opinion LTE is a necessity on Verizon and Verizon alone because of their piss poor 3G speeds.

sprint needs it too. at&t a bit less, t-mobile the least of all. i'll probably be happy for another 2 years at tmo's hspa+ speeds.

So Sprint doesn't need LTE?

AT&T needs it for capacity reasons and less speed reasons. Vegas for example is a nightmare. They haven't got enough capacity even on a non CES weekend to handle 3G traffic on the strip. Part of this has to do with the lack of 850mhz spectrum there too I'm sure. Horrible.

Ironically, the Sprint speeds I've seen in my neck of the woods are nearly identical to Verizon's 3G, ~3mbps.

Lol...I know people(many on this forum included) on Sprint's 4G WiMax that don't get anywhere close to that.

Agreed, the phone will age quicker than it's radio. I don't think much of Engadget staff since the Verge group left but their editor in chief argues very successfully that DCHSPA+ can compete with LTE for the time being.

Is it me or the N10 is kinda ugly. The front speakers and the rounded edges make it look kinda bad.
The iPad tends to look sleeker and sexier, although the cold industrial design could use some warmth.

Not having held one yet, I'll reserve judgement. But yes, it looks pretty ugly.

I don't. The Verge review has a few shots in "realistic" lighting, most other videos weren't useful to gauge the looks. I'm getting it day one but I also don't think it's the best looking tablet out there. I don't have a nexus7 or ipad to compare it to, both are likely "better looking" but tablet looks have never been a big factor for me anyway.

brian klug said as much on the last podcast - that in pics/renders it doesn't look too nice, but once you hold it, it looks fine and in-hand feel is top notch.

Official Nexus 4 review (both text and video) from Android Central:
http://www.androidcentral.com/lg-nexus-4-review
He loves the phone. He didn't say much about battery life, except that it's decent.

I hate battery reviews when it's subjective and based on use patterns. I take subjective statements with a grain of salt. It's unfortunate Anand's test unit may be problematic, but their benchmarks are the best method to actually compare.
One thing I'd like to see is standby battery testing.

Here's a review from androidpolice as well, seems very positive overall:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/11...roid-deserves/
I'm pretty disappointed that no other reviews have been running the glbench tests to look for throttling, it would be nice to see at least one unit that's able to run it well without being in a freezer. That's really the only thing that's keeping me from buying this day 1.

Sorry if these were asked before:
1. I have the Google Nexus 7 in 8gb. Did they update anything else on the new 16gb other than the price, or did they update hardware?
2. Any estimate date of Jelly Bean 4.2?

If only some of the units throttle like that, it's still too many. Who knows, perhaps 1.5 GHz quad core is a little too much. I wonder what type of speed reduction it'd take to drop the power requirements enough on Brian/Anand's unit so it stopped throttling. 300 MHz lower to 1.2 GHz?

Boy Genius Report review:
http://bgr.com/2012/11/08/google-nexus-4-review/
They say the "battery is great", whatever that means.

Stuff.tv review:
http://www.stuff.tv/review/google-nexus-4
Battery life on the Nexus 4 is quite a letdown, especially since we’ve been spoilt by the super stamina of the likes of the HTC One X+ and Nokia Lumia 920 lately. You’re looking at 7-8 hours of normal usage (during out testing we blew through a third of the Nexus 4’s battery in an hour and a half) and chances are you’ll be re-juicing late afternoon.

Battery life looks fine to me. I'm just disappointed with the sealed battery. I already know Nexus 4 has better battery life than GSM Galaxy Nexus with the official extended battery and similar to SGS3.
