Radeon hd 7950 causing my screen to go black?

I just build a new computer a few days ago, here are the specs

xfx pro 550w
Antec one case
asrock extreme4 z77 mobo
sapphire radeon hd 7950
i5 3579k
gskillz 8 gb ram
kingston hyper x 120gb ssd
1tb seagate bearacuda hd

for some reason it seems completely random every the first time it happened randomly after lightly using the computer for an hr the next time it was about 3 hours my monitor either just goes black or blue and you can see some vertical lines. The fans are still running and everything on the computer but just can't see anything and i have to reset to fix it. Is this a problem with possibly the video card?

is there anyway i can test for what the problem is? Any help is greatly appreciated

go see in event log. it should tell you the problem. could be the monitor.and what about the temp??

If you are using Windows 7, just type event in the search box and Event Viewer should be one of the search results. Select this, then go to Windows Logs, select the System Log, then filter it for Critical, Error, and Warning events. Look for an item that occurs at relatively the same time as the black screen problem.

It also wouldn't hurt to similarly check the Application log as well.
