Is SSD worth the investment here?
Hi. I am new to this forum, and my knowledge here is very limited. I have a Dell E1505 , 2006 model, T1350 @1.86 GHz,1.5 GB memory, with Intel core solo. I was getting the BSOD with my windows XP and then i made the switch to UBUNTu 12.04. I did a scan, on the crucial website and it said that i my laptop can be upgraded to an SSD. My question is, is it worth the shift?

Probably. Although the single core hurts. (I want to say upgrade that or replace the laptop rather than sink money into it. But if thats not in the budget and an ssd is, it's not like the ssd won't give you an improvement...)
What do you use it for?

With only 1.5Gig of RAM, I'd probably upgrade the RAM first.
That laptop is fairly old, how long are you keeping it? And how much hard drive space do you need?

Hi, and thanks for the reply. I use it for basic browsing,but am looking to invest in a DSLR soon, so probably some photo editing. As for the RAM, the max on this one is 2Gigs and i got 1.5. Also, i plan to use this till it totally gives up on me. Touch-wood, after making the shift to Linux,my laptop has been pretty good for me. No more BSODs and it rarely if at all freezes.

Get a new laptop first then go from there. When I bought my laptop, dell alienware m17x, I made sure that it had enough grunt to last me a while.

Well, if you get a nice SSD and try it on your current laptop, you can just keep it and when you get a new laptop, transfer it into the new laptop.
That way you avoid the price premium of buying a new laptopt with an SSD and save money that way, but still get the boosted performance of the SDD and can take out the new laptop's hard drive and use it as an external backup.
So there is almost no risk to buying the SSD, even if you get a new laptop later because you can transfer it to the new laptop. I'd say go for it.

With current setup, SSD will speed it up considerably.

Thanks for the reply, to all . Coming down to SSD's , if i went with a 2.5" SSD,are almost all SSD's compatible with different Laptops? I don't know much, so after a crucial scan, it suggested http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartsp...0DCEB5A5CA7304
. Would this be compatible with other laptops i might buy in the future ?

Laptops have 2.5" drives so if it fits the form factor and interface, ie. sata, then it will work.

One thing to think about is the height....SSD's have two different heights, I think its' 7.5mm and 9.5mm
Some newer laptops might only fight the slimmer of the two, so prob worth it to make sure you get a 7.5mm for future-proofing.
