By the time the real problems with the MMO part show themselves, it might be too late to redirect into making a successful single player/coop game.
I still backed it; hopefully, we'll still get a good single player game out of it. However, I think this is the riskiest project I've backed to date.

The actual fights will be instanced, and like 100-200 players if I remember correctly. There won't be 1000's of ships going at it at once.

Squadron 42 comes first. He stated that in the ama on reddit. Star citizen, comes after. Squadron 42 is what he calls the successor to wing commander

$3 million dollars. The first major stretch goal has been released. This means a longer campaign for Squadron 42, and ensures that Star Citizen (the MP game) will get concurrent development.
Now it will be interesting to see if they can get to $4mil in another 10 days. If so that means another 10 S42 missions, proper mod tools, and being able to afford enough staffing for Star Citizen to bring it up to full production right away.

Alright, we're coming down to the final few days! Here's a goofy video from Chris Roberts to get you amped up (rofl).
The latest rundown:
- we're at 3.68 million dollars raised, with 1.26 million coming from kickstarter
- star systems revealed: Odin, Tyrol, Kellog, Goss, Orion, Ellis
- new stuff unlocked: the Starfarer tanker and asteroid bases
- information regarding multiplayer instancing here, and details about ship docking and fps combat here (scroll down).
- early AI control video here
- details about the referral system here and here. basically, you get 250 credits and a chance to win some swag if you use a referral link. i'll shamelessly drop mine right here.
- big announcement on ign today at 6pm et (or 1 hour, 20 minutes from this post). hopefully interior and exterior constellation artwork, and details of the live-stream party. i'll update with the relevant links when they go live!
ign article is here! 18 pages of constellation goodness.

Upped my pledge from $30 to $60. This is starting to get me more excited.

yeah, chris roberts has spent over a million dollars and worked for a year on a tech demo, hired some of the most talented concept artists to design the ships, brought in some of his old friends in the business to help out and...
...it's just for a cash grab. gimme a break dude.

Yeah, I guess since the Hollywood deals petered out, he had to do something. Falling back on the old rep and some new funding channels certainly helps. Maybe it will be as wonderful as the original rosy (and ambiguous) PR said. Maybe not.
No one I know who worked with Roberts has much positive to say about it.
If I were a funder, I'd be crossing my fingers.....

I hope it's not like MWO where it's a huge cash grab filled with disappointments.

Yeah, I funded more for the cause in general. This is the first legit AAA-style space combat sim we've had in over a decade.

Ok we get it. You don't like Chris Roberts, how about you stop pissing all over the thread now?

Hope it is, since MWO is neither a cash grab nor disappointment.

I'd like to be cryogenically frozen for a couple of years, so that I can play it right now.
EDIT: Has anybody on here read all the details about this game? Read about the ships and everything? This has got to be the most ambitious project I have ever seen... ever.. ever... ever. I can't imagine this being done within 3 years... maybe 4-6. Just look at this... Coming up on 'flight chairs', track ir, multi function displays.... I'm not sure what it all means but I feel like it's actually going to need NASA's budget.
