Request: Socket A CPU
Hey All,
Does anyone have a working socket A CPU laying around that they wouldn't mind parting with? Seems the one I have isn't working. Building a "standby" rig for a friend using old parts until he can afford to purchase another one (read:no job).
Thanks
UPDATE: I found one for 4 dollars total on Ebay so you can ignore this post now.

What is a digital coaxial audio cable? If you are talking about the cable go from your DVD player to you receiver, I use a normal RCA coaxial cable from my DVD player to receiver, and works fine.

I should have a 1700+ and a 2500+ around, the 2500+ would be a Barton, so older boards might not support it.

Hmm... Like the ones for video and audio in old tv's? I'm connecting my mobo to my z5500 control pod. Would a regular RCA cable work?
Edit: after some research, standard RCA cables have little shielding and varies in impedance, they work but it can have some interference.

Those are "like" the regular coax but better, supposedly.
I never used one, instead, the more recent type with the square tip that goes in the little square plug with cover on newer devices.
You can score these "odd" cables now and then for $2.50 or so (for good brands too) when the stores like Target, Meijer, Walfart, etc. do clearances. Even when the item is just getting a packaging change the old stock gets on a clearance shelf.

Can you help a small non profit org out?
I work for a small non profit we are a counseling center and specialize in Domestic Violence, Child Batterers, Anger Management perpetrators and victims. We have been around for 20years and have always relied on referrals. We have 2 offices 1 in Rancho Cucamonga CA (our Main) and a Second in Riverside CA (our satellite that doesn't do quite as much business) But lately the technology needs of our organization have grown and technology becomes more embedded into every aspect of our world.
We are running machines that are at least 8 years old. an example I gave to someone else of how bad the hardware is. On the 3 old machine they have CD drive, not CDRW not DVD just Cd and they don't work lol. We really don't have a budget for anything because we have had some dishonest IT people run us down the last few years. They implemented a phone system that was over priced and promised of the world w/it only to never deliver (its a Cisco phone system) We have just brought in a new IT person who I feel is honest and trust worthy but he just doesn't have the resources to supply the hard ware needed to really get us running well.
I can build pc's so part or anything would be great
List if what we could really use.
Any parts to build PC's we NEED 1 more PC but would love to be able to have 3 (we have 3 front office station and 2 clinical stations, 2 front office station are currently equipped with decent pc's at the moment we are on windows 7 for those good ones so that's what we would like to implement all around)
Anything we can get for a server, the one we have in Rancho is sub par and we need a second one for the Riverside location if at all possible.
As I said any parts or anything we can use. Im open to suggestions as far as any one who knows programs that donate to non profits, what else to do to get hardware or parts.
This is the post I made in the mod forum and they suggested I ask here as they look into options for me

I can provide mission statements or whatever is needed. If you have any ideas or suggestions where we can get computers donated or low cost that would be fantastic. We currently use techsoup for some of the stuff. Its ok for software but the hard ware is very poor. Windows XP builds that were mid range in 2010 for $250-$400. Not sure if Anandtech itself donates sometimes. But in case it does or so you know what we are looking for
3 PC's that can run windows 7. Nothing fancy really basic 2gig RAM, 250-500GB HDD, Dual core whatever. Its for front offices. We dont need monitors or mice or anything but will definitively take them as ours are old and very basic.
We could desperately use a server or server hardware. Ours is very much out of date.
We have had some bad IT people over the last 3 years and they have degraded our systems to the point of almost unusable as well as had us purchase phone systems that were out of our budget and never configured to work properly. (we found this out to late sadly, they sold us cisco systems and turned out to be making money off the sale as well as monthly).
We have just recently brought a new IT team in but w/out updating hardware there is only so much they can do. So any Direction that can be given would be huge for us. We operate at 3 front office personnel as well as a clinical staff of 12-15. We have a annual operating cost of 500K and a working budget of oh around $12.67 it seriously is low though. We basically operate at cost.
Thanks for the direction, also I didnt want to post this in the wrong thread so if you want to move it or direct it or shut it down id rather it be done in private than me look like im just begging in public.

Thank you guys so much for anything you can do or suggest!
Ken

SD card/SD micro card
Does anyone have an SD card or SD micro card that they're not using and want to toss? I have a 2GB micro somewhere, but misplaced it during my moves. Not sure if it worked anyway, because i dropped the phone that held it into the ocean. I have the adapter (which works most of the time), so another micro or a regular SD card would suffice. Any size over 256MB would be great. I just need something to which i can install an OS and do some testing for the NetBSD/evbarm port (and possibly pkgsrc work too).
I don't have anything interesting to give - just a bag of stuff that contains a Bluetooth driver CD, a regular-sized hard drive enclosure (power source/USB cable), a sometimes working 80GB Seagate IDE disk, and a sometimes working Nokia phone charger. I have been giving this sort of stuff to a local kid, so if you want it before he gets it, just let me know. Shipping would be from the DR, so i wouldn't imagine that makes it very attractive to most people on here. Local pickup is also in option, if you or someone you know is in the area.

Hmm, i guess i could post it back after i'm done with it, but it would be a couple months at least. Depending how the testing with the tablet goes, it might be something i'd use long-term to do more testing and development. If the stupid thing could boot off a USB drive, this wouldn't even be an issue. If it's something you'd want back eventually, it might just be easier to see if i could scrounge one locally.
