Was the Japanese case decided by a judge not a jury? The UK case was decided by a judge, correct?

Wow they've been using cell phones as credit cards, well that must prove they're way ahead of everyone else!

As with any country (japan included), only a tiny fraction of America creates the operating systems, software and computers. For a more realistic use-case, get on a bus and talk to the guy next to you about apple, samsung and google or some other technology. If they even bother responding to you they will likely not know jack diddily squat other than "i've heard of them before" or "is that a chinese grocery store".
America is one of the most proudly ignorant countries in the world, there's good reason why the rest of the world views the typical american as an ignoramous.

Sounds like a thinly-veiled racist comment (his comment, not yours). I never see his comments until somebody quotes him.

It kind of is when you think about it. Your cell phone is effectively your wallet in Japan. Everything from vending machines to retail stores, you can pay using your cell phone. There are probably some exceptions here and there, but it doesn't change the fact that we ooh and aahhh about things like Google Wallet, when that sort of thing is old hat in Japan... Really old.
In the US, we are really good at coming up with ideas, but when it comes to taking those ideas and turning them into something useful... That's where we tend to fall down.
In South Korea they've had 100Mbps Internet access to people's homes for like a decade or more. Now granted it's a much smaller land mass compared to the US, and that certainly makes things easier, but we have something like 20% of people in the US without either Internet access at all or broadband (I forget, maybe someone can help me out).
You look at almost any other industrialized nation, and they are passing us by in the US. In large part, I'd argue, because of people making comments like yours I quoted. Instead of saying, "Cool! We should be doing that too! Why aren't we?" we get people who say, "Meh, big deal."

sums it up nicely. America is behind by a long shot in tech. The hardware is there. Its that they don't utilize it.

It was easy for them to switch, because they were so far behind in actually using credit cards and checks. Japan is, or at least was until recently a cash based society, far behind the Western world in electronic banking.

They've copied the Japanese business model. The company's name is the Korean version of Mitsubishi. They align themselves with Japanese companies. They talk down to LG in ways that is utterly disrespectful and rude. The company's from SE Korea, a bastion of self-hating Koreans and Japanese lovers. Even the company's hotel has yukatas rather than whatever the fuck Koreans wear I could go on but I won't.

That is true. People still don't use credit cards much though.

That's not entirely true. Many South Koreans have family in the north that was trapped there when it went communist. They probably haven't had much or any communication with them since the 1950s. I'm sure that all South Koreans hate the north's government, but not necessarily the (brainwashed) people.
Edit: I misread the comment from phokus as north v south. Oops.
