Mass Casualties in Pickup Truck Crash in Goliad Texas (11 Dead, 12 Injured)

(CBS/AP) GOLIAD, Texas - Authorities say a pickup truck has crashed in South Texas, killing 11 people in the vehicle and injuring 12. All 23 passengers were in the same Ford F-250 truck, according to officials.
|
I await Obama's flight to Goliad. I also await Mayor Bloomberg to address this terrible crash on his radio program and the NY Daily News to go a week with it as the front page story.
Should there be new limits on pickup trucks in the wake of this tragedy? Knowing how they cram into vehicles, this also could be a case of illegal Mexican immigrants. Should there be new immigration control laws implemented?

More Mexicans have entered this country since you posted this story, than were even in the truck. I think we're good. No need to worry.

Obama can't pay any law or bill that will stop people from being stupid.

I'm not a religious person, but if there are one or more gods, I hope they have a special circle in hell for slime balls who are compelled to exploit such tragedies for petty political points. Indeed, an ass.

How dare you question my intentions. I am shocked at the disparity in coverage regarding these two tragic cases. The shootings in Colorado have dominated the headlines and have evoked the expected political opportunism from the usual suspects.
Yet the vehicle accident in Texas also has political connotations. This goes beyond a "regular" traffic accident. The lack of coverage, the lack of compassion - indeed, many comments on news websites in response to this tragedy are racist and barbaric - are indicative of the seriousness of the illegal immigration issue facing America.
Illegal immigrants, many of the Mexicans, have been relegated to an oppressed sub-culture. Ruthless "Coyotes" smuggle them into America, businesses exploit them, and many "average" Americans also exploit them, smugly going to Lowes or Home Depot to "pick up a few Mexicans" to do yard work or handy work. I am sure many right here on the Anandtech forums participate in this modern day equivalent of racial slavery.
These suffering immigrants are forced into dangerous situations such as the overcrowded truck in Texas. They live "undocumented" within America, hated for their race and class by some, yet exploited by the many. The crash in Texas brings to light their plight and struggles, as well as the need for comprehensive immigration reform in America. For this reason, both the Texas crash and the Colorado shootings can and must be used as touchstones to spur wider debate regarding critical issues in our time.

lol @ people attacking him for using this to push a "political point" LOL isn't that what is being done right now in the "hey lets have a conversation about gun control now" i mean shit 1 out of 330,000,000+ of us did some crazy shit that killed 14 out of 330,000,000+ of us. That's a fucking goddamn statistical err. Mother fucking emotional babies always wanting to make new laws and try to control the world around you. It's illogical and impossible, stop being such wusses.
PS - this to is exceptionally sad. That's a lot of people to die in an auto accident ;(

One was a traffic accident which is part of a broader political issue. 23 people crowded into a truck is not a normal model of American vehicular conveyance
A cold blooded murder is a law enforcement issue; do we necessarily need new laws in the wake of it?

South Park has to do an episode on this American phenomena
I've notice those cartoons can speak volumes to those who usually can't see on their own

Incorruptible is your 2nd account, right?
the same false outrage and logical/moral disconnect is unmistakable.

I honestly believe that the illegal immigration issue in America is the great human tragedy of our time. I also understand that a mass shooting in middle class America generates more page clicks and TV viewership because it is perhaps more shocking, and more Americans can relate to the victims.
However, the way in which the plight of illegal immigrants is swept out of site by some of America's most "enlightened" citizens is appalling. I suspect that some of the eye-closing stems from their knowledge that they too are recipients of the benefits of society exploiting poor illegal immigrants, and some stems from political expediency.

Yes, yes you are.
You think your posts are somehow a mirror into the soul of white America, and by looking into it an epiphany will occur as to your wisdom. Your passive-aggressive bullshit has been called out by many.
