The S3 has just been rooted before it's release. I says that's good for Devs.

Now, everybody say thanks to Samsung! I don’t always agree with them, but so far they have been the first and IMHO still are the only high-end Android OEM who aren’t complete d***bags in the unlock department!

This phone is on my radar. For whatever reason, the HTC phones just don't interest me.

Bigger news is the developer Chainfire devoted to working on the SGS3. Tegra 3 games maybe?
Also I wonder if Samsung will send the CM developers SGS3s like it did last time with the SGS2.

The 4.8 inch screen is just too much of a turn off.
I don't know how you guys keep getting use to these large screen sizes.

Screen size != phone size. The GS3 isn't that much bigger than a S2. Heck the S2 is only slightly larger than a 3.5" iPhone.

I hear this TIME AND TIME again....
It's a bunch of crap. Look and see
The SGS2 is significantly bigger than the iPhone and the GNex is bigger than the SGS2 by a good amount too. The SGS3 is even bigger...
Just look at how the 3 devices are held in someone's hand and you can see.

I wouldn't call the difference between the GS2 and iPhone significant but that's just me.

Sure. You always say +1mm here +1mm there. The fact is the hand isn't that big. It isn't measured by feet and miles, it's a few mm here a few mm there.
How is it that some guys hold an iPhone and it looks clearly TOO SMALL in their hands. Give them an SGS2 and it looks about right. You can flip it the other way around for some girls. The iPhone fits nicely, but my friend clearly cannot handle the GNex or SGS2. She uses 2 hands to operate it because the hand that holds the phone doesn't have enough thumb length to navigate.
How come when you go from a 3.5" phone to even a 4" phone, you think the 3.5" phone is tiny afterward? I can barely use my iPod Touch after my SGS2. You may think its "slightly" larger but "slightly" is the difference between too small and too big for a hand.
I heard the same argument that a 3.5" phone isnt that much smaller than a 3.7" phone. People used this argument each iteration of screen size. I'm not trying to say limit screen size, but recognize that phones are definitely increasingly bulky as they grow bigger.
And if we want numbers, shear surface area of the front face:
SGS2: 8282.33 mm^2
iPhone 4S: 6757.632 mm^2
22% more surface area. I guess significantly larger means 500% larger?

PSSSSH! All these phones are tiny My GF just got an iPhone 4, and the entire phone basically fits inside on the screen on my Galaxy Note. After having my Note for like 2 weeks now every other phone seems small to me, even a good sized one like the One X.

Even a 5" screen still fits well into the average man's hand.

For your hands, probably.
But Samsung (and other Android manufacturers) aren't interested in Apple's one-size-fits-all approach.
The Galaxy Note is a bigger success than anyone could have imagined (Samsung will sell 10 million Notes in 2012). Market research points to 4.6"+ phablets like the Galaxy Note to be a 200 million units/year market in a few years: http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/23/p...-year-in-2015/

The iPhone sells more than the Note, so does that mean people want 3.5"?

Note sold 5 million devices in a month, thats enough volume to warrant making devices in that size range.
5in isn't too big for my hands, but it'd be uncomfortable in my pants pocket most of the time.

The 4S sold 4M in a weekend, so whats your point? Should apple still make 3.5" iPhones? There's demand for the note, but its sales doesn't mean people prefer the larger phone compared to the conventional 4-4.3"
Also the Note is 5.3", not 5". It's huge and it's more of a phablet.

This again.
What some people consider 'significant' amazes me.
Sure, the SGS2 is a few mm's taller and wider, but it's also thinner and lighter.
Oh wait, let me exaggerate that for effect:
It's SIGNIFICANTLY thinner and SIGNIFICANTLY lighter than that fat brick of an iPhone!

I said that size range. Couple coworkers traded in their iPhone 4s for Galaxy Notes and love them. For what thats worth.
There's a market for smart phones in various sizes. Personally, I'd never go below 4in ever again. But thats just me. Even a 4in phone feels tiny after the T-bolt and Nexus.

This. It amazes me how people can continue to say the SGS2 is bigger than an iphone4. I hope its because the have never actually hold them in their hands at the same time. What ads to the feeling the ip4 is a brick compared to the s2 besides the 116g vs. 140g, is the hard edges. The ealier ip designs was much better for the hands and in the pocket.
IP4 is beatifull, but its simply the most idiotic design ever. Feels like a brick, have trouble making calls, and brakes when it hits a hard surface.
A brand can make people irrational and more stupid. I guess its sort of the purpose of it

isn't braking when it hits the surface a tad late? surely it should brake before then to avoid damage? :p
although, yes. the sgs2 doesn't feel as big as you'd think.
