Wireless printing

Anyone have an experience with them? Looking to sell my HP PSC 1610 soon and want to get a wireless one, Best Buy ha an HP all-in-one wireless printer for $149.99.

Can they be put on standby after like 10 or so minutes and power back on whenever a document is sent to be printed wirelessly?

Any other general tips I should know before getting one?

its not a bad idea to get one.

i have a lexmark 3500-4500 series one. the one thing that bugs me is that in order to print i have to connect to that printer via wireless in order for it to print.

so be on the lookout for that i haven't messed with my router to have the printer set up there just to let you know.

other than that they work great. just buy ink. more blaack than color (sounds racist)

if you are looking to upgrade your router, you could get a router w/ a USB port, and have wireless printing through the router

the downside is that perhaps some stuff won't work (scanning functions dont work?well? since its a "generic" solution, you might not get some of the fancier functions like getting ink levels

(but this means you don't have to upgrade your printer if you don't want to)

I have a wireless printer for 2 years and haven't regretted the decision since. As I was saying in another thread, I really hate cables.

One thing you should be careful about is the b/g/n/ wireless standards. It's preferred that your printer should know wireless "n".

And why HP and not Canon? Canon has a better combination of printer price/ink cartridge price

I too have been wireless for about 3 yrs now with my Lexmark X6575 All In One and have had virtually no issues. I seem to get months of further use even when the ink carts say they need replacing. The Lexmark "Wireless Configuration Utility" is simple and quickly takes care of the initial wireless connection. I have mine set to go into a sleep mode after 10 min, but it awakens very quickly when I want to scan or print. And oh by the way, "Gunk", welcome to the forums - there's a lot of great people here that have a ton of information that they contribute.

I've used a P1102W for several years now. I never need color, just B/W, so having a small wireless laser printer is perfect for me. I bought it for around 80 dollars...probably 3 years ago (theyre still on sale now it looks like), and I just started getting warnings from low toner.

Installed mine with just the basic driver, plug it in USB to get it going, connect to a wireless network, then unplug it and go. It's been pretty much perfect from the get-go, and just goes to sleep when I'm not using it (which is most of the time).

If you don't need color, I'd highly recommend it.

I've got a Canon MG5220 that's been wireless since day one. No problems printing from any computer on the network. One feature I really like is its ability to drop the output tray automatically when it gets a job sent to it.
