D14 is freakin huge
I just swapped out the 212+ for Noctua D14 in my Antec 300 case....I was debating between an H100 or the D14...Since newegg had the D14 for $75 last week, my decision was easy...now I don't need to mod my case which I wasn't looking forward to doing...

I love my d14 also. I'm using the Antec 182 Case and it doesnt look as tight as yours. I would suggest moving the middle DVD drive up to the top bay to allow a bit more circulation.

That is a monster. Has anyone done any long term studies on these massive air coolers when placed in tower cases? Is there any warping of the motherboard over time?

I was considering the Noctua D14 as well since I sold my Hyper 212 EVO. I have the NZXT Havik 140 coming instead. Its supposed to have very close cooling performance to the Noctua so well see.

Rvenger...if you have a chance to swap (though it sounds like you've already ordered), Overclockers has a review of the NZXT Havik 120, which, despite the smaller fans, actually cools a little better than the 140. You may want to have a look there if you can.

idle temps have dropped by about 4 deg C...idled around 37 now around 33.
average use would jump up to around 60 (when flash stuff kicked in)...havent seen it go over 50 yet...
and this thing is super silent. I can only hear my case fans now...I would hear the 212+ fans kick in when temps reached over 58 or so...that was actually a big reason for swapping out...

Is there an undeniably better air cooler than this?
I've read that the Havik can give it a kick or two but are there any others that can seriously challenge it or beat it?

Just watch the fan clips on your video card. I fried my 2600k last year with an NH-D14 on my P8P67 WS Revolution. My fan clip was actually touching the solder points on the 6+2 plug of the video card. I noticed it when installing and put a piece of rubber there to insulate. A few months later I was blowing the dust out of my case and didnt notice the piece of rubber shifted. I powered it up and sent 150w through the NH-D14 right into my CPU and burnt it out.
The WS Revolution has a few extra X16 slots so you might be ok though so just a heads-up.

Which Corsair? Ive found the H100 to edge this NH-D14 out on my 3960x. I get about 5C cooler with the H100.

I was running just the two stock fans. It has 3 speeds. On high, the fans can get pretty loud under load but there really wasnt much temperature difference between high, med and low so ran it low most of the time which to tell you the truth was not bad at all. Its all personal though, I have two kids running around so tend to hear them over my PC anyway. 
I just swapped the stock fans with Scythe G.T.'s 1450 RPM fans I had laying around and they are even quieter with no loss in performance.
Yeh I figured you had enough room between the H.S. and video card. The WS Revolution board is basically a MAXIMUS IV EXTREME without all the fluff. The first x16 slot is above the x1 slot whereas its below on your board.

That is huge. Tuck the cabling behind the HDD bays will help give a cleaner look and probably better air flow. That is what I did with my 300.

When i first got my D14 it was in a Antec 300 also, the lack of cable management drove me insane and i really needed a EATX case anyways so i went to a Corsair 600T and now it doesnt look as huge, as it Barely fit in the 300 and has some room around it in the 600T.
I will say this though it a great cooler. And the backplate is very stong and my mobo has no noticeable bend in it 2 years later.

I just swapped out my 212+ for a hr-02 macho. The single heat sink on that thing is freaking massive.
I cant believe it looks so huge even though its in my ft-02 case.
The 212+ is just such a fantastic performer for the price that it doesn't seem worth it to upgrade unless you get one of these huge coolers Enjoy yours!

Is there a better way than this? This is exactly why I'm not using the to PCie slot of my board and loosing x16 capabilities

Agreed. I like the H100 much better because the temps are the same and the H100 doesn't take much space on my CPU. Small and elegant, I love it.

I currently have the Corsair H70 hooked up to an i7-920 DO and have been thinking about switching to the Noctua NH-D14. From what I've "read", I should see a bit of a difference in cooling. On minor OCing (3.8ghz), I'm fairly happy with the H70 (low to mid 70's C). When I try to turn up the juice (4.2 ghz), the temps goes higher than I'm comfortable with (low to mid 80's C). Also, I'm a little worried that if the pump fails on the H70, I could do some damage to my system. The NH-D14 can cool with or without the fans. Your thoughts??
