I do have a MIVE Gene-Z in a box bit I'd have to update the bios first and then build it.
But that $159 Z77 Biostar looks good too.
Newegg could have it here by tomorrow...going to have to think about this...
BTW Asus said for P67 I'd have to wait until the 3xxx bios for full support.

It is the bios.
Another purchaser from the same guy has no problems on Z77.

Are you doing only water tests? Or also some on air?
Regardless, excited to see your writeup.

This is the retail E1 tray stepping.
WTF?!?
|
This was mentioned early in Feb and the Asus rep was asked but the answer is being hidden behind NDA. AFAIK your not the first, a Russian who bought retail E1 in March also had this problem on his Gigabyte board and again AFAIK it appears that ME8 may be required to unlock your IB.
If this is true then that would mean all P67 still with ME7 will have this problem and that probably means at least all the Asus & Gigabyte P67's as of now.
Asus did try with the P67 MIVE to provide an ME7 to ME8 update but the BIOS download was removed. You might have to wait until the official IB release for a BIOS update or further information from Asus. Sorry, that must really suck right now.
Asus BIOS with ME8 start with the first digit of 3, i.e. 3202, which you will find are available for a lot if not all Asus Z68's and even H67's
If you wish to confirm that this is likely the problem then check bit 28 of MSR 0xCE. If it is 0 then your unlocked ratio's are disabled. You can use cpu-z txt dump to check or hwinfo32 or a number of other softwares.

If you get the time, a graph showing CPU scaling with voltage with a few different points up to the max and the temps you get @ 100% load for all data points would be much appreciated.
I know it's some work but... should be fun work and this would provide some hard data on scaling with voltage and temperature which is what all of us are concerned about I am sure.
Will be checking back constantly. Hope you live on the East Coast so your "tonight" comes earlier for me

The main thing I want to know is whether it gets ridiculously hot temps when overclocked like the ES previews showed. If you can compare temperatures with your old processor using the same water cooler that would be useful. I'll be using just a noctua D14 myself.
http://www.obr-hardware.com/2012/04/...vy-bridge.html
So much bad info flying around, some showing ivy bridge being great some showing it being trash. It's never detailed at all either, 1 or 2 questionable screenshots here, or a wide sweeping "it sux" or "its so good" statement there. I can't wait for legit info from this thread.

Would like to see some air tests with a Coolermaster Hyper 212+ equivalent type cooler to get an idea on the heat issues.

I'll be running on air once I build with my MIVE Gene-Z and flash the bios.
It'll be either an Armageddon or NH-D14.

Found some stuff on 3770K air temperatures, different from Techreport's tests. Temps abnormally skyrocketing beyond 1.36v
