Word Lens: Incredible realtime translation iPhone app. Stop and click this right now.

I'm a software developer and have a generally well honed sense for what a hoax is. This sort of thing is hypothetically possible with today's technology - the major problem being pattern recognition within the image at that kind of speed ("What being captured by the lens is text?"). This'll be an amazing tool if it's the real deal.
Here's Word Lens in iTunes if anyone wants to download it and try it out.

of course you need to pay $5 for spanish->english or vice versa...
the demo for "word reversal" seems to work okay. it's not completely accurate but it's not too bad either. tried this on my ipod touch 4g.

it's impressive, but i am a bit surprised that it is "ATOT-impressive".
I mean, translate.google.com already does half of what Word Lens does. Now all that app need to do is a OCR / image-to-text function and done.

It's not bad at doing the job, but all it does for the demo version is put the words backwards. It does an alright job. You need to hold it really still for it to work very easily. (Not easy for me)

It's the instant translation (on the fly) which is the amazing part. It would be pretty fscking awesome if it worked properly.

I'm going to call shenangians somewhat.
Most likely it will only work for perfect surfaces with no imperfections and under very specific circumstances.
I do like my on the fly voice translation though in android.
