I fix computers for a living, I don't have a shop but trying to figure out the best ways to market myself has always been something that keeps me changing my mind. I went to all the liquor stores and small businesses and told them who I was and asked if I could put out some advertising. Magnets worked very well, they weren't super cheap but not really too expensive either. I started out with 250, they definitely got me more calls than my business cards. And a bunch of people have told me how much they like my business cards. Plus the magnets stay on the fridge so when people want to call you they have your info. I can't count how many have told me "oh I needed viruses cleaned off my laptop but I couldn't find the business card you gave me. So I called Geek Squad" People tend to throw business cards away, or misplace them but they keep the magnets and always know where they're at. Door hangers are another not too expensive thing that works semi well. I ordered 500 and paid some 8 year old kids $10 each to go around and hang them on all the doors in their neighborhood. I only ended up getting a few calls, but the money I made from the calls paid for the hangers x2, and I've gotten some word of mouth business from these people telling their friends.

I personally like the yellow on the flyer, it makes it stick out, my business card is orange + vertical with rounded corners, so they tend to really stands out. Which is never a bad thing, especially if you have them in locations where other people have their flyers too like I do.

I see quite a few people commenting on how "old" the Flier looks but no real solutions as to how to change it. I'm a tech, and have no advertising experience or background. I'm a father who has been unemployed since October of '07 after my job of 7years went with the company I worked for to another country. I have a very tight and extremely thin budget to work with, while all the Ideas are helpful I posted the fliers proposed here plus the one I posted (in black and white) of 100 people polled 67% liked mine while the other 23% liked the one proposed here, and the remaining 10% like a very simple minimalist flier I made. The main complaints about mine were that it contained to much info and that it was not please to the eye.

I do agree on the magnets as cards idea, and the door tags as well, but the insanity of pricing local printers want is WOW, just WOW! If anyone can help out or might be local and has business experience I'm willing to sit down or talk over the phone to listen.

I love what I do but need to be more profitable in order to keep the wife happy, and my family fed. I'm willing to do whatever I can to get my business name out there and I'm currently trying to line up some stuff to take to my local chamber of commerce meeting in two weeks...

never go with local printers, vistaprint for magnets, especially with the coupon codes you can get a very good deal. Local printers charge an arm and a leg, overnightprints is another good source, they have real good prices with coupons codes you can find on Google. Fliers are fluers if I need my PC fixed and don't know anyone who repairs. I'm not going to care if it catches my eye, I'll give you a call. People who have spyware infested computers that hardly work will call if they see your flier regardless of if it looks professional or home made.

well, first you have to find out who your target customers are.

targeted marketing is much more cost effective and efficient than spam.

I paid $65 for those dells with everything included monitor keyboard mouse and restore media and driver disk. I can't move them at the price i have them for.

consider advertising in Kijiji and similar websites. Hundreds of people view them so you might get more customers.

Also, if possible, try bulletin boards in apt complexes.
