Video drivers not loading correctly

Hello,

I'm having the following problems after trying to install new parts.

Video card: Asus EAH3650 Silent Ati HD3650 PCI-Express

ASUS ATi VGA drivers from CD in box are not loading: "Setup has determined that the operating system in use is not a 64bit OS and as this Setup is intended for 64bit systems only Setup will now exit".

And yet the box says clearly labelled on the outside that it works with Windows 2000.

It still says it installed something, but in Display Adapters, I have a warning exclamation point under "ASUS EAH3650 Series".

Tried to load Catalyst anyway; ATi Catalyst 8.4 drivers not loading: "Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit." I took the drivers from the "Windows XP Pro/Home / Radeon / Radeon HD 3600 Series" link on ati.amd.com/support/driver.html. (This would make some sense if the basic VGA drivers aren't installed properly.)

Would the Catalyst 6.2 drivers found under the "Windows 2000 Pro / Radeon / Radeon Series" be better? I don't care for the best and latest - just something that works...

Procedure done:
- Before uninstalling old harware, removed all motherboard and display drivers and adapters I could find (Abit NF7-S2 w/ Barton 2500+ & Asus V9280 GeForce4 Ti4800SE), which ended to be only the Asus Enhanced Display Drivers and the Nvidia Drivers.

Other new hardware installed:
- Intel E2160 CPU (run at stock for now)
- Gigabyte P35-DS3L motherboard
- 2x 1GB Mushkin PC6400-800MHz memory
- Zalman 7000AlCu CPU cooler
- Antec EarthWatts 500W Power Supply

Hardware kept:
- Antec AMB3700 case
- Maxtor 80GB IDE drive (main drive)
- WD 320GB SATA drive
- DVD Burner

- Windows 2000 Professional SP4

(Replies consisting stricly of "upgrade your OS, you [insert insult here]" will be cheerfully ignored. Others have made this combination work, plus the video card says it should work.)

Use whichever drivers are the latest drivers for Windows 2000, see if that works.

It's rather silly to try to use XP drivers on Win2k

I doubt 6.2 would work at all -- they long predate the 3000 series.

I believe you have to try the Omega drivers. ATI official support for W2K stopped a while back. Not sure why, since there's basically no difference...

Jax Omen: Many people I deem knowledgeable have assured me that a fair number of XP drivers will work in 2000 as there's little difference in substance form them. My main source of puzzlement is that Asus's own box says the video card will work in 2000, then its own drivers won't work. ATI's Catalyst says that I don't have a 64-bit OS, which is also weird since I supposedly went to the 32-bit link to get it...

I concur that older drivers shan't work and that there is no substantial difference betwixt Windows 5.0 and 5.1 in this regard. They have simply discontinued official support to reduce costs (and/or Microsoft no longer certifies).

I would have thought maybe there was a mistake with the Asus disc if the same 64-bit error did not occur with the AMD download. But I guess the "incompatability" in the driver setup just manifests oddly.

It's likely that a very simple edit to the setup is necessary -I do this sometimes to add my AGP card to the main Catalyst release rather than waiting for the inevitable hotfix driver. I don't know what that would be precisely but it should be simple enough to find at rage3d or asus support forums I guess. I would not recommend using a pre-modified setup having a mess of other alterations.

Thank you Auric - though actually the Imega drivers work like a charm. I'll keep in mind the rage3d and the rets of your suggesitons if a problem manifests though!

Now if I can only figure out how to get my display actually recognise my actual monitor (Dell 2007WFP instead of "plug and play monitor"). I can't find any driver or the sort... It said it last time, I don't know why it doesn't now...

Glad you got it sorted. A quick goggle reveals this driver for the monitor.
