Hendrix died in 1970. I would consider the bulk of his work to be in the "60s" era. Similarly with the Doors (disbanded in 1971) and the Beatles (disbanded in 1969).

The Beatles should not even be in the poll. And I wouldn't put Hendrix or the Doors in there either.

With that, Led Zeppelin runs away with it. They were clearly the most influential rock band of the 70s.

::still waiting on the Grateful Dead::::

if you don't have the Dead on that list, then you have no sense of the 70's.

Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin! Such a hard choice, but Floyd is more meaningful...

Good point.

It's probably better that they did anyway, before Led Zeppelin came along and blew them off the map.

I'm biased though, because I can't stand the Beatles and Led Zeppelin is and always will be my #1 favorite band ever. (Looking up at my framed Houses of the Holy poster in mint condition hanging on the wall as I type this)
So is this entire poll just one big e-ego stroke for your Led Zeppelin crush? To include the Beatles is ridiculous, considering they broke up 4 months into your time frame.

The Beatles are fantastic and one of the greatest and most influential groups of all time. Led Zeppelin is as well. One band created the ability for the next to prosper.

This poll would be the equivalent of me saying "Which band was the best between 1960 and 1970?" and including The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin's first record came out in '69, but to include them in that disucssion would be asinine.

Pink Floyd.

Led Zeppelin is vastly overrated. Every album contains 1 song that is one of the best ever written/performed in the history of mankind...but the rest of the album pretty much sucks. Just my opinion.

Was just going to mention that.

Looking at the list, I'd be curious to see how many people were in more than one of those bands. For example the first one that jumped out at me was the Guess Who and BTO. Randy Bachman is the man!

Funny thing aboot Zeppelin is they were weak (mostly Bob's vocals) as a live band after about 1973.

Now Rush, OTOH, was getting started in 1974 and continued to excel through the rest of the decade. In the studio and live.

Well....you caught me red handed. I have done either A or B:

A) I left the Beatles on this list because I knew Led Zeppelin would crush them on votes.

or

B) I have this whole thing rigged, and I'm secretly using remote desktop on everyone's machine here at AT and voting for Led Zeppelin while they're AFK.

All I said was I just don't like the Beatles, I didn't make everyone vote for Led Zeppelin.

If I rename it to "Best band ever in the history of music" would the beatles be ahead on votes? No...Zeppelin would still be #1.

I wasn't going to make a 1960-1970 poll so THAT is why I left the Beatles on the list. So people would still have an opportunity to vote for them even though I don't like them and DIDN'T want to even include them...but if all the Beatle-Heads are going to get mad because they aren't ahead in votes I'm just going to delete them off the poll entirely to keep the peace around here. Sheesh...

If you made it best band ever in the history of music, then my vote would have been for the Beatles instead of Zeppelin... Not all of us are retards who blindly voted for Beatles, since you specifically said "70's" but left the Beatles as an option.

PEOPLE:

This list is supposed to nail down the BEST band. Why you guys are bitching over not having Iron Maiden, Derek and the Dominoes, Judas Priest, and the Doobie Brothers, I just don't know. Sure, they might be good, but I don't think very many people would say they were better than everyone else...

I have to agree with you theres only what.. four songs I like on Led Zeppelin the others are boring. People give them way too much credit. I'm thinking that either Black Sabbath or Deep Purple are the Better Bands in the 1970s

And I realize that they are a late 60's band, technically.
