How long does it take for alcohol to wear off?
Let's say I have to make a 45 min drive. What is the minimum amount of time I should give between my last shot and this long drive?
6 hours?
<-New to this DUI thing.

It depends on how many shots you have, not just how long you wait after the last one. If you did 15 shots in that last hour, you wouldn't be sober for at least another 15 hours.
1 oz of alchohol takes roughly 1 hour for your body to process.

Depends on how used you are to drinking alcohol.
How much did you drink and how tipsy or drunk you are atm ?

If you are driving, how about just not drink?
The "standard" for the rate at which your liver processes alcohol is around one drink (one shot or one beer) per hour. This of course depends upon your body type, liver condition, and other factors, but that is a decent basis.

Well I'm a weaksauce Asian (145 lbs) so I'll probably take about 5 shots to get a nice buzz.

You are still going to have the alcohol in your system, and you are still going to blow positive on a breath test. Just because you feel it less because you are accustomed to the effects doesn't mean much, especially in the legal sense. Even a functioning alcoholic will be positive, yet you can't tell they are drunk. And they will still be charged.

I second that. I heard people have a lot of alcohol, go to sleep, get up & drive to work next morning. They get pulled over & they're STILL LEGALLY DRUNK because it's still in their system.

If you're over 21, it's about 1 shot an hour..look up DUI charts for specific weight/percentage information.
If you're under 21 though where a .01 will get you in trouble, then I'd say at least a few hours per shot..

Damn, looks like I'll have to be a good DD and not drink. Well this week is my last week of dorming and its on to the apartments for the next 3 years. Yes, there's still plenty of time to get wasted but this'll probably be one of the last times I'll spend with a few of my hallmates.

It kind of depends. Are you concerned about blowing a breathalizer test or actually being impaired. Having 1 beer then driving will probably allow you to fial the breathalizer test but i dont think any normal person can say they're impaired.

I think the general rule is an hour per shot/beer. I'd give it a lot of extra time just in case, though.

Um, no. Unless you're 92 pounds and haven't eaten anything all day.
I'm 170lb and according to the charts I believe can have approximately 3 drinks and still be under the limit (with no waiting time).

This is true for the first hour, after that you have to slow down... 6 drinks in two hours is pushing your luck for example unless they are very weak ones & while you might be able to function after 9 drinks in 3 hours, you would fail a breath-test every time.

Obviously. I didn't say 3 drinks an hour, I meant 3 drinks total, say goodbye, and drive off.
