Default Why is stealing whether be it minor or serious, is severely punished?

in some country such as India, pakistan, iraq, afghanistan, egypt or the middle east. Even kids of under aged have their hands chopped off. Is this fvvked up or what? I'm very disappointed how much of an ass these people in authority are. They really believe chopping off hand solves all the crime problem for religious reason and I'm against most religion that take advantage of weak minded people.
What about your kids taking something from you that you did not know about, chop off their hands too? Yea, that'll teach them not to steal ever again.

The world is full of evil zealots we must get rid of this stupid fundamental beliefs that has ruined many people's live for no good reason other then to strike fear into the hearts of many.

That's a lie.

Minors do not get their hands chopped. Only adult thieves who did'nt need the item get chopped.

i.e. Ken Lay would be missing a hand but some straving man who stole a loaf of bread would'nt.

I acutally think it's reall good policy. No need for a background check.. just look at his digits to see if he's an honest man or not..

We need stuff like this here. it would reduce paperwork tremendously.

Man talk about coming out of left field..

Anyway, property rights are some of the most basic rights in the world. Willfully taking something from another person, be it his money, his car, his house, his wife, his child, his livelihood, his life, etc is fundamentally wrong in the eyes of most cultures. Are violent and extreme punishments uncivilized? Probably. But each culture weighs it's own crimes and punishments as it sees fit.

You ask if someone who loses a hand ever steals again, and I'm betting the answer is no..

Oh are they? Many would say PROPERTY is THEFT!

Maybe instead of saying: "property rights are some of the most basic rights in the world"

You meant to say: "property rights are some of the most barbaric rights in the world"

But hey, who am I to put words in your mouth?

imagine this:

you are in your hut that you own and built with your own two hands, and your family dwells there. you have the rights to that property. someone bigger than you with a weapon tells you and your family to leave, he's is taking your property.

how was the right to your property barbaric again?

How about, you work nothing but 2 hours every day, and you have someone hired working for you earning the money, how is that fair. There is a clear slide in work and how much you get for it. That's what i know.

Okay, we are living in the twenty first century. Remember that fact.

We don't build our houses by ourselves anymore. The construction business is complicated, with many different types of specialists needed to construct one house.

There's a lot more than the black and white to your question. What is the status of the man with a machine gun, why des he need to take your house?

Ok, reading a few of these reply, I have NO idea WTF you guys are talking about, so I'll just stay out of this thread..

Working two hours a day isn't fair and complicated construction business?? I thought we were talking about why people in general think theft is wrong and should be punished?
