yes, technically it works, because it adds sugar to your system, which will give you a momentary burst in energy. realistically, i've found it doesn't increase performance so to speak, but it tastes good, which encourages you to drink more than you would if you just had water. more liquids = always better.

If you aren't thirsty, I doubt it would quench your thirst.

Electrolytes are things they made up to make you think you need them... I'm jk I really don't know if they work, I just know they taste great when you're tired.

Read the ingredients....it is just water with sugar and salt added.

It helps a lot, at least for me. Drink it after a workout.

Note that Gatorade probably works better than Powerade for most people.

I guess it works, but I think that water is just fine for most people.

I learned in a physiology class that gatorade does work, at least in terms of elevating available blood sugar levels. Normally, sugar and other nutrients we need are absorbed in the small intestine, but thats all dependent on the stomach contents emptying into it. Scientists (long ago) discovered electrolyte-glucose pumps within the stomach that activate when, for example, high levels of sodium/other ions and glucose are present. The gist of this is basically, the electrolytes in gatorade stimulate earlier uptake of glucose available in the stomach, so that you're able to get the energy you need quickly. Plus, the electrolytes are there to replenish those lost when you sweat it out during the exercise/workout.

For those who just say it's marketing... you need to hear how the drink came about. It's named for the Florida Gators... their team docs formulated a drink for their players to battle dehydration back in the 60's. It didn't magically come into being and the company hired some ad agencies to promote it...

Gatorade and other sport drinks do not "give you energy", they help your body maintain the balance of the items it needs during physical activity.
