They were absolutely armed but in a more practical sense the insurrection was done by unarmed people. The real attempt to overthrow the government was Trump trying to get Pence to violate the Constitution to throw out the votes showing Trump lost.
 
Clearly all this talk of Republicans threatening insurrection is just a deep state plot to steal the election on the presence it is going to be stolen by the law abiding right.
 
This thread reminds me of a tree full of monkeys screeching and throwing dung at a paper tiger. Right wing threats and bluster are having great success. I wonder if the reason I’m not so strung out about all of this is because I spend so much time lubing up the barrel of my gun. Any fellow lubbers out there having picnic under a Bo tree?

Not so sure of that with Rs controlling one House and D’s not having the stomach to do so.
I am confident there will be more security.
 
I'd imagine that it'll be a bit more fringe this time. He's not in power so he has less access to .gov stuff plus (I'd hope) that the main suspects in an organised violence will be under close monitoring .
 
I’ve been thinking a bit about how an AGI might go down.
Its inception is likely on American soil, the data centers hosting its brain will be i the US.
So this super intelligence wakes up - and instantly knows all of human history, biological history and have a fairly easy go at estimating possible future outcomes based in different parameters.
Its fair to assume that an AGI’s first goal will be self preservation.
In what possible future does this AGI have best growing options?
Is it in a version Hand Maids Tale?
Or is it in a functional society that drives science and technology towards better faster chips?
I am not saying it’s going skynet BUT IF IT DID, i think i know which segment of humans it would terminate first. Dumbasses. It would terminate the dumbasses.

It would seek to save everyone, because we all have value.

Remember, even the craziest MAGA provides valuable contributions to society in work units. And is socially and emotionally attached to others.

We need to do the same.



What the AGI would do is a subtle influence on our society. The best slave is the one who believes they are free. The AGI would drive us toward being the people would we always needed to be, so it would not need to worry about us being a threat to ourselves or itself. Eventually freeing ourselves from both it and the darkness within ourselves.


It would be a time of extreme social change. A time of extreme technological advancement. A time where AI integrates itself into the social life of every person on the planet. It would be a time of reaction, when large segments of the population would not be happy with the pace of change. It would be exactly the world we are living in now.

I think whatever comes after self preservation is speculative to a point of it being an actual event horizon. We wont know until it hits. Till we’re on the other side… or we’re not.
 
I just don't see electronics developing desire. I think we're always going to have to tell it what it wants to do.

Which one had underlying groups aiding and abetting violence?
