If you have any questions regarding hardware and software please read the AnandTech FAQs before posting to the Forums. Chances are that your question has already been answered before.

AnandTech Forums FAQ

This faq is work in progress.

1. If you are having a problem with the forums, please post them in Forum Issues. You are not guaranteed a response, but staff do periodically check the category.

2. If you are having trouble locating a thread do not ask the forum moderators or administrators where it might be as there are millions of messages in this forum; knowing where one is, is impossible.

3. If you receive a message saying your E-Mail address is banned, you can contact the forum moderator to question why. Below is a list of E-mail services that were banned due to abuse, and will not be re-activated upon user request.

AOL
Bigfoot
Excite
Gotoworld
Nightmail
Whitehouse
All domains operated by portofevil.com, aka evilemail.com

4. In addition to the above, all of AOL's system is banned from the forums; this includes their IP addresses. This means that even if you sign up with a different E-mail address, you will not be able to post if you connect to the internet using their service.

5. If you get a message stating your signature is too large when updating it, ensure you factor in the HTML it takes to create the link or bold the text you may have in your signature. So if your signature was:

Hey take a look [l=here]http://www.anandtech.com[/l]

That gets translated to:

here

Please don't ask us to raise the signature limit, as we have no plans to do so at this time.

6. Information about the number of posts associated with member status can be found in the "Help" section. In addition to the status that occurs automatically based on post count, you will find another called "Elite". In this case, it is not based on number of posts but rather is granted by the forum Administrators based on input from the forum Moderators.

Elite members are those who have been supportive of the forums, and positively contributed in a variety of ways, whether it is being helpul answering hardware questions, tracking down trolls in For Sale/Trade or just simply bringing a few smiles to other members in Off Topic.

7. Moderators are anonymous due to the fact that they freely volunteer their time to the forum, and Anand believes that they should not have to deal with the potential headaches associated with the job while in their personal personnas.

8. The "user rating" feature is based on a scale of 1 to 10, with "1" being the lowest and "10" being the highest.

9. Sometimes a moderator will delete a thread, other times they will lock it, and leave it to delete later. Locked and left up usually means that we want other users to have a chance to view the thread to get an idea of what is/is not allowed.

A thread that is deleted immediately is either 1) Because it is offensive, or 2) There is a similar locked thread existing in the forum.
