There was a BK in Edison, NJ, next to a CompUSA that had .99$ Whoppers for like 5 years. They're normal priced since ~1999, but it sure was good eatin' until then.

Just goes to show that it depends on the BK.

The article in CNN Money didn't detail any dates:
BK link from CNN (http://money.cnn.com/2002/12/02/news/companies/bk_whopper.reut/index.htm)

Excerpt: "Under the program, the Whopper will be sold for 99 cents for 17 days in January, down from a suggested retail price of $2.19, the paper said. "

Now if they could find a way to serve it without the veggies so stewed you think of soup it would be a hot deal. It seems the only way they can serve it to you hot is to pull it out of the nuke and immediately dress it and wrap it up so the meats still cooking and the veggies turn to hot mush. BK's vresion of a hot meal is defintely not a hot deal. You'd think they'd catch on. I'll wait for a special where they advertise they've thrown out their nukes. Superior taste ruined by inferior prep.

BK flame over and done and maybe overdone.

I live just two blocks away from a McDonald's. It is brand new. I remember hoping it would be a Burger King when they first started building it, because there was already a McDonald's less than a half mile away. They ended up selling the old one and moving into this one. Of course, I know why they did this. :) During lunch, all the kids at Roosevelt High School (1 block from new McDonald's) all run up there to get some food.

There is a DairyQueen and K.F.C. right next to McDonald's too. Seems to be a very competitive spot. I STILL WANT A BK CLOSER TO MY HOUSE! ****IT! hehe...

Yep BK has the fattiest burgers of the 3 majors (BK, Wendy's, McD's). Wendy's usually wins best (freshest) burgers. McD's wins best tasting fries.

corinthos
12-03-2002, 10:05 AM
Wendy's is hands down the best out of the big 3...

Their lettuce and tomatoes remain crisp and cool even after the sandwich is put together.
They have a nice 99 cents menu which the other two are emulating... the in-restaurant dining
experience is more pleasant (better dining area and atmosphere.)

i like Wendy's burgers, but they're too d@nm expensive... McD's does get best fries though... BK is the best for everything else... Xcept pitas.... yet again Wendy's

I don't eat much fast food but the best fast food burger I ever had was a chain called Checkers. There were a few by me (NYC) and every burger I had there was really good. The burgers were made fresh to order so no heat lamp/microwave nastiness.

I am also amazed that a whopper is fattier then anything from McDonalds. McDonalds crap seems to be soaked in pure lard. I think the only reason the Big'n'Crappy is less fat is cuz it's half the size. :P

O and yea I have noticed that even within a certain area a Burger King can have a 99 cent whopper yet one down the road is full price $2.99. They are a franchise organization and have some flexibilty on how they price their food. Like they say, "at participating locations" Even base meal rates vary alot. A Big Mac meal in new jersey may cost $3.99 but 10 miles away in NYC, the same meal may cost $5.50.

I don't like Checkers that much, but their apple pies are good. About 10 years ago there was a burger chain here call Ralley's that was frickin awsome.

Im all about the Star from Carl's JR. until they changed the price to 1.29 here in pdx.. I love Carls Jr, heck the one near my house has a sunday special where any combo meal 1-6 (incl the chix and super star with chees) are 2.99. Crazy!

On another note all my friends and I would always go on "whopper runs" in highschool about 4 years ago, twas a sad day when they dropped the 99 cent thing 3 years ago here.. Now its like 2.50 or something, something totally ridiculous that makes you only buy the combo meal.

Oh and one other thing, we used whoppers as currency.. meaning "what? you could get like 12 whoppers for that price"
:P

It's just sad that Carl's Jr. only gets a single passing mention. They are IMHO the best quality burgers on the market. And for those of us who like a big burger, we don't have to buy 2. There are at lest 4 huge burgers to choose from. Yes, the regular fries suck the big one, but the crisscut fries with house dressing are the Bomb!! Fried zuccini aint bad either. They are prolly the closest to real food that you can get from a fast food chain.

Not to mention that some of them also have the Green Burrito store included for that Mexican binge.

HERE HERE for carls jr!
also hardees on the east coast for all yoos who dont know.

best cheap burgers around, and they aint afraid to toss in coupons so you can get buy one/ get one free..
its always so empty its sad. people really need to support them
btw the fries are actually good now, taste like mcds, i always avoided them like the plague until i was forced to get a combo meal, but tey really are better now!

so sad that the carls jrs parking lot is taken sometimes by mcd-ers next door. mcds is so gross cept for the fries..
hell it practically costs as much now and they only just now instituted a dollar menu.

:Q I cannot believe no one has posted this yet!!! BK has a policy of "Have it your way"
When you order a whopper tell the clerk you want it "OTB", this stands for "Off the broiler", they will get all pissy with you and they will ring it in as OTB. The meat will be cooked as you wait and it will take an extra 5 minutes and OMFG is it worth the wait. Nothing beats a whopper fresh of the grill. I have sent many back because they are not fresh and they will do it for you trust me. Now we are talking AT Deal of the year ;)

The Jumbo Jack is top notch. Though, I don't see why people go for a whopper. The bun doesn't taste that good. You guys always miss out on things like salad, tomatoes, pickles, and buns. A plain burger is nasty. It's like plain meat and plain bread.

IMHO:
Jumbo jack - 1st prize
Famous Star - 2nd
Whopper
Big & McNasty

They were once .99c. But price vary and YMMV. Actually J in the B has the best fries. They're always hot, unlike mcdonald. Full pieced fries, not crumbs. My last place to go to is micky di.
