Brace this people,
20% is not a check/money rebate. 20% rebate is in the form of DELL gift certificates. I already called both Dell and Microsoft and they confirmed to me about this !

$2500 on dell 8000 inspiron = get $500 dell coupon !! What da hell ? After spending $2500 the last thing i need is more dell money !!!!!!!

Oh hell no... If that's so I'm gonna bring up some hell. Their site says specifically it is a cash back not GC!

Guess we might have a list of WNC (Wounded Notebook Child) users. :|

It is a check, verified by MSN Live talk.

April 1 is far away.

This is from official microsoft passport site. Search for DELL hint:look under 20% gift certificate.

I also complaint about this to the CSR, they told me somehow they used the word check rebate where they really mean a check rebate of DELL gift certificates.

I am cancelling my order tommorow at 7 am eastern !

It is very shady...I see on Dell's website " A 20% cash rebate will be issued...blah blah" and I also see "20% cash back when using your passport wallet in Dell's checkout....". I printed everything out, and I will take it to a customer service or sales manager if I have to. Escalate the call !!!

I just dropped 3200.00 on an Inspiron 8000 ! :)

I gotta get to the bottom of this GC or check business because the Inspiron Free 8x DVD uprade, Free shipping and free $100 off all ends tomorrow.

If it's a GC then forget about it. WE need to e-mail an MSN Passport VP or something.

Rossman,
Are all the deals for the Dell upgrades ending tomorrow or just the notebook ones?
Also, in anyone's opinion do you think there will be a drop in desktop prices for PIII since the new P's are coming out?
I don't have enough money to buy a new computer every day, so every little bit of consumer info helps.
Thanks.

Geez Guys---

Have a little faith here. Cash rebate does not mean gift certificate... no need to get all paranoid. Dx-treme--whoever you spoke with needs to get their head out of their A$$...

Check out on MSN's page--it specifically differentiates the Dell deal from the rest stating IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS that it is a Cash rebate and not a GC rebate.

MSN (http://eshop.msn.com/softcontent/softcontent.asp?scmId=579)

It's perfectly clear IMHO. If Dell sends a GC, you can sue their ass.

The deals for the notebooks include the free DVD-ROM, 100 off, and free shipping. Desktop systems only get the free DVD-ROM drive. They all basically end tomorrow at 11PM CST. The 100 off the Inspirons is a little foggy though. No exp. date.

ken2 - There's been some speculation over in the UseNet NewsGroup alt.sys.pc-clone.dell (http://x75.deja.com/=dnc/[ST_rn=ps]/qs.xp?ST=PS&svcclass=dnyr&firstsearch=yes&QRY=&def aultOp=AND&DBS=1&OP=dnquery.xp&LNG=english&subject s=&groups=alt.sys.pc-clone.dell&authors=&fromdate=&todate=&showsort=sco re&maxhits=100&uniq=974885179.492830730) that since Pentium 4's are just now being introduced that prices will fall which is probably true in the long run. Depending on what your needs are and more importantly your budget I would suggest buying now, because:

1) The current Free 12x DVD upgrade (http://www.dell.com/us/en/dhs/products/series_dimen_desktops.htm) which is worth $110 expires 11/28/2000.
2) Take advantage of the MSN Passport 20% off now, although it's not scheduled to expire until December 20, 2000 (I think) however Dell and/or MSN can pull this offer anytime they want. Do you really want to miss out on saving 20%?

I'd say the system which gives you the most bang for your buck is the Dell Dimension 4100 starting with the Pentium III 866 all the way up to the 1 Gig. Only get 128MB PC133 RAM and buy the rest cheaper from Crucial.com

Hope this answers your questions.

I can't believe this! I was so excited about getting my laptop....don't tell me it was all for nothing. Here's exactly what we've all been reading when we purchased our notebooks:

**Attention
MSN Holiday Shopper!
For shopping MSN eShop
and using your Passport
Wallet in Dell's checkout,
you'll get 20% cash back
from your system order
when completed online!
(Current price does not
reflect the rebate, which
will follow in the mail 8 to
10 weeks after your
system ships.)

KEYWORD ----- CASH BACK!!!!

Don't they have to honor this even if they made a mistake? I have all this printed out so if I have to I'm gonna be the pissed of @$$hole who wants my rebate check.

it's not a mistake... it's 20% cash back. I don't know who Dx-treme talked to but something stinks around here.

CASH DOES NOT EQUAL GIFT CERTIFICATE

John
11-28-2000, 02:20 AM
If Dell didn't mean "cash back" they would have added the clause "20% issued in the form of a gift certificate to our Gigabuys store...."

In addition, Dell WILL honor a pricing error. The customer experience, own it !! :P

Iilac

WOOHOO

Now it says cashback now on MSN's site under DELL4ME. There is no denying it now. We are getting cash back.

rhong
11-28-2000, 05:47 AM
Iilac, and others, I think you're reading it wrong.
I think it is meant to be read in the following manner:

20% Gift Certificate: Crutchfield, Dell
20% Cash Back: eHobbies, Fossil, etc...

The 20% Cash Back is meant only for those links under that label, not just for Dell, which is above that label.

And sorry, if you read below for "Gift Certificate"...
What does 20% Gift Certificate mean?
The merchant will send you a gift certificate for 20% of the value of your current online purchase. For example, if you spend $100 today, you'll receive a gift certificate for $20. These gift certificates can only be redeemed at that merchant's online store.

(Which sounds just like Crutchfield and Dell to me.)

I didn't jump in on this deal, but I'd be sorry if I did.:disgust:

I think people are over-reacting:

From Dell's web site:

**A 20% cash rebate will be issued to qualified Dell Home Systems purchasers based on total transaction amount, including taxes and shipping. Rebate maximum is $500. The rebate check will be mailed to qualified purchaser?s bill-to address, as provided in Dell?s online checkout. Due to processing time, purchaser should allow 8 to 10 weeks before check is received. Customer is disqualified and will not receive rebate if product is returned. Offer good only for online system purchases made through Dell Home Systems between November 17 and December 20, 2000, for customers who came to Dell.com through a link on the MSN network and used their Microsoft Passport Wallet data in Dell?s checkout process. Purchaser must meet the eligibility requirements set forth by MSN as posted on their website at http://www.eshop.com/softcontent/softcontent.asp?scmId=587

From MSN's 'little' page that pops up when you click dell4me.com:

A check in the amount of 20% of the purchase price of your order will be sent to you within a few weeks

It's apparent that a

<< check >>

will be sent to the buyer. And I'm still seriously considering this...what a NICE deal :)

rhong--quit trying to spread paranoia. Try to follow my logic here.

If you had taken the time to click the links for ehobbies, fossil, and all the other stores BENEATH the "20% Cash Back" label, you would have seen that their popups say gift certificate, just like the popup for Crutchfield.

In fact the ONLY popup which uses the term cash rebate instead of gift certificate is DELL's, and low and behold, by putting two and two together you realize that the "20% Cash Back" text could ONLY belong to the Dell offer. It's common sense, really.

It's crystal-clear folks.

I work for Dell's tech support. Just remember, if they don't honor your 20% off, you have 30 days from the time they invoice the order to return the system and Dell will do about anything for you to keep your order.

What in the hell are all you talking about, it clearly states 20% cash back when you click on the dell4me link.

Make a purchase at Dell4me.com using Passport Express Purchase and get a check for 20% of your purchase!

When you make a purchase,
Click the Passport Express Purchase button

A check in the amount of 20% of the purchase price of your order will be sent to you within a few weeks.

You'll have to go through MSN Eshop to get to the page Dell specifically created for this promo. If you don't see the 20% notice on the left colum of the Dell page then you're out of the loop.

I didn't buy a Dell (I was more interested in EHobbies), but I did just finish speaking with MSN about this deal and this is what was said:

Sheron: Hello Brent, how may I help you today?
Brent: for the 20% passport deal. which are cash rebates and which are gift certificates? specifically dell and ehobbies.
Sheron: Here is a listing of the participating merchants and their offers.
I have just pushed you a page
Sheron: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Brent: Yes, I've seen that. but notice the 20% cash back listed under the 20% gift certificate collumn? what is that refering to?
Sheron: Just a moment, please.
Brent: ok
Sheron: That means that the gift certificate will amount to 20% of your total purchase.
Brent: cash back does not equal gift certificate IMHO. so you are saying that NONE of the merchants are offering cash back. only gift certificates?
Sheron: I'll be with you in a moment...
Sheron: Dell is sending an actual check to you in 6 to 8 weeks. The rest of the merchants are as stated.
Brent: ok thank you for the clarification
Sheron: You're welcome.

Flashbandit, the only 5400 rpm disk that Dell offers on their Inspirons are the 32gb one. I don't know with you but the speed difference between the 700 and 800 are marginal so unless you really need that extra edge, save the $200 and get yourself something with that (like More memory through Crucial)

Just my 2c :)

Haha, some of you people are pathetic. Of course it is cash back in the form of the check. The only reason its under the "Gift Certificate" column on the MSN page is because you get the refund by check, not immediately on the purchases like 800.com, et al. God, can we let this rest?
