So last Monday(1/22) I sent my Inspiron 710M for repair. On Wednesday I received back a box from them, I didn't open it right away. When I did, it's someone's laptop. Some older inspiron. I contacted Dell and they said they were looking into it and would call me back.

Needless to say It's been over a week, no one has called me back and i've called support repeatedly. I finally got a number but it's for the out of warranty repair center.

I got the number of the person that laptop I received and I'm thinking of calling him today.

Anyone has had any experience with something like this? I have my laptop HD, but i'm dying to get my machine back. I need to do my personal work.

It sucks!

Call Dell and don't hang up until you have a tracking number for a new laptop being shipped to you. Be polite and courteous, but firm.

I submitted a blog comment there about my experiences with Dell, including the way in which they failed to honor the extended warranty on my wife's computer. The post didn't show up and I doubt it will.

You could try posting on the Dell Community Forum. Certain members there can escalate your complaint and there are Dell employees that watch the boards to some degree.

Your best bet is getting on the phone with them and being firm but polite.

You should write a blog post documenting everything and submit it to Digg and Slashdot. That'll light a fire under Dell's ass.

Sorry to hear about your mis-fortune. It's a good thing that you at least have the hard drive, and don't have to worry about THAT falling into someone else's hands. Like everyone has said, being firm yet polite on the phone is 100% the best way to go.
