Wireless Network Adapters

IntelŽ PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Wi-Fi Internal Card [add $28]

Dell Wireless 1490 802.11a/g Wi-Fi Internal Card [add $10]

Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Internal-card [add $57]

Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Internal-card [add $48]

Dell Wireless 1395 802.11g Wi-Fi Internal Card [Included in Price]

Why so many choices? What's the difference between the 3 "g" cards?

Video Adapters

128MB NVIDIAŽ GeForce? 8400M GS [subtract $73]

256MB NVIDIAŽ GeForce? 8600M GT [Included in Price]

IntelŽ Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 [subtract $146]

How big of a difference between the 8400GS and 8600GT? How much of a drain on battery life for the two discrete cards vs the integrated?

Thanks!

depends on what you want to do with it. business apps go with integrated. will offer the longest battery life. gamine.. 8400 just doesnt cut it, unless maybe you play 4yr old games. 8600 is really bottom of the barrel minimum, so dont expect too much from it either

If you plan on gaming at all on your laptop, get the 8600GT. It won't blow the doors off anything and will choke on Crysis, but at the Vostro 1500's 1280x800 resolution it should be able to handle games like COD4 at decent settings.

The 8400GS and X1300 are pretty much worthless for gaming.

the 8400 must be a little better, they charge at least 75 bucks more for it. i dont really game, but is it really worthless? wow.

maybe better 2D quality (at least that's been my experience with desktop integrated vs. low end discrete)
