What is the maximum resolution when using a DVI connection for the nVidia 6000 series and Radeon 700 series cards? I looked at both nVidia's and ATI's web sites. They specify a maximum resolution of 2048x1536 but they don't clarify if this is via an analog or DVI connection. I checked some manufacturer web sites with no better luck. The Leadtek site however did state a maximum resolution of 1600x1200 over DVI.

As I posted in another thread, I'm looking for a PCI Express card for 2D work (basically, page layout and image editing) and want to connect a 20-inch or 23-inch LCD monitor via a DVI connection. The native resolution of the 20-inch is 1600x1200, which should be no problem, but the 23-inch has a native resolution is 1920x1200, which may be a problem.

I need to know this before I buy the card (and monitor) but am having trouble finding the information I need. Any pointers appreciated.

2048x1536 is for analog.

Single-link DVI only officially supports up to 1920x1080 @60Hz. The newest drivers from ATI and NV have a workaround that allows you to run at 1920x1200 by reducing the refresh rate and/or running a blanking interval that is out of spec.

Search for some of the Dell 2405 threads here or on google for more info.
